Not for Alex I mean, but for Swanny finally talking sense: http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull...esn-t-credit/story-26010882-detail/story.html How many still think he's "the worst defender in the Premier League"? I've always been a fan - a cliche but he gives 100% every time, makes tackles that belong from a better, bygone age and never hides even when things arent going well. Everyone can put themselves about when they're on form but Alex is never afraid to stick his head above the parapet. It's players like him, Mcshane, Meyler and Quinn that will be the difference between staying up or going down this season. And the critics should concede that he's not even the worst at our club....
As long as Wes Morgan's plying his trade in the PL no other defender should come close to being labelled "the worst defender in the Premier League"?
Even some of the so-called big name internationals like Sakho for Liverpool look shakier than Alex Bruce to me, I'd like to hear the fans singing his name a bit not just his dads
In another article about 352 he says of our midfield three 'they work effectively as a trio, which is something you can't always say if there's just two of them.' Err yeah probably not Swanny.
I disagree. I mentioned this before, but there's a difference between being good enough to play in the Premier League and having a good game in the Premier League. For players who haven't got PL ability, like those you mentioned, it's like they're playing an FA Cup tie against a bigger club every time they step out onto the park. I agree Bruce Jnr has got better, but there's still a lot about his game that shows he just isn't a natural top flight player, ditto Meyler, Macca and Quinn. I'll give them credit where it's due, I thought Macca and Bruce were at the top of their game on Tuesday night and it was a great defensive display, but you can't honestly suggest that players of their ability are what we need in our squad? That every aspiring Premier League club should have a smattering of Championship quality about it? No. If their contracts are up at the end of the season, they should be allowed to leave; their heads can be held high, they did us a great service, but for us to progress and establish ourselves,we need to be bringing in (or bringing through) proper PL quality, not hanging on to sentiment. It's harsh, but it's football. Bruce Jnr and Macca are playing a blinder at the minute and the fact they are keeping our captain out the side is testament to their form, but they aren't a long term answer and once Chester is back, he needs to be put back in again because we don't seem to have a ball playing centre half at the moment (unless you count Bruce Jnr's backpasses to Mags). If Meyler, Quinn, McShane, Bruce Jnr and Figureoa leave in Summer, that frees up some wages to bring in a better player (I assume they are among the lowest paid at the club).
I completly disagree with this^^^, it's about a Squad of 25 and we will not have 25 top prem standard players.. You need your squad type players, the ones who who will come in and do a job for you, then theres the cup comps where you'd idealy rest some 'first teamer's', Bruce never lets you down and has had,in some games, top prem strikers in his back pocket. As corporal Jones once said," they don't like it up um"...
Bruce Jnr, Meyler et al are what got us where we are. Whilst they are not as 'technically good' as others they bring different things, which in a team like ours are needed just as much. Hard work, old fashioned harder tackling and all give 100%. As well as bringing the team spirit back which you don't always get with better players who have that sense of entitlement. We need them.
WBA at home this season for starters, he was atrocious. Other highlights include the 4-1 home defeat to Newcastle last season and the Europa League tie against Trencin. Honestly, I could easily sit here and list off the the times he's been ****, but that's not my point at all. In fact he's had a fair few games for us where he's been decent. I'm not saying he's the worst defender we have, not at all, just that he isn't PL quality and if we want to progress than hanging on to players like him isn't a good idea. And we do want to progress in the PL don't we?
I agree in most of what sterling is saying but To grow a good privit( crap speller) you Trim the bush not dig the bugger up.... In other words, slowly replace players
Er, why? So you're suggesting that instead of getting rid of the Championship level players in the squad and bringing in PL quality ones (they don't have to be Aguero level quality, by the way), we should hang on to the ones that got us to the PL because....what, they give 100%? Why can't they do both? Isn't Diame one of those players who gives 100% and has quality? N'Doye managed it the other night as well. You do need strength in depth for things like cup competitions, but there's no reason that the squad players shouldn't be good enough for another PL side. And this bollocks about him having Suarez in his 'back pocket', I'm sick to death of it. Yes, he managed to keep him quiet, but so what? Fair play to Alex for having a stormer, he deserved all the plaudits, but one swallow doesn't make a summer; Josh Coulson played for Cambridge in their FA Cup game against Man U and kept a clean sheet, should he be hankering for a move to the PL? When we beat Man City a few seasons back, we had a back four of Mouyokolo, McShane (at RB), Dawson and Gardner, I didn't see many PL clubs clamouring for their signature straight away. All good players, just not PL quality players (although Dawson was probably the pick of that back 4).
The other thought that crosses my mind is how much All these 'prem quality' players gonna cost, In fees and wages, would they want to come to Little old hull city? Can we afford them, the players mentioned won't be on mega wages, what about the wage bill ? Will they be happy at not playing every game? I would presume If they were higher Calibra players they wouldn't be happy sat on the bench.
In our situation, character is more important than ability. I doubt anyone would disagree that we were better last season than we have been this season. And why do we think that is? I'd 100 attribute it to desire and character. We might now have players blessed with more ability but if they havent got the desire to show it....
