Just watching Gillette Soccer Saturday and they were talking about us. Merson said that we weren't given enough credit last season for what we did in staying up, FA Cup final and getting in Europe. All of that success was brushed aside and we pulled up trees last season and deserved more mentions for it. He thought we could be down there at the end of the season but we'd stay up and we have a class manager. None of them could believe the Chester penalty was given saying he was clearly trying to move his arm behind his back out the way. Thompson believed Snodgrass being out is a big miss. He also said he wants Rhodes to be given a chance in the Premier League and even if he doesn't seem to be getting a kick in the game, he'll score goals when the chance comes his way. Nicholas also praised Bruce more saying he keeps grounded and level headed. He said he came out after the game and dealt with the penalty questions well asking for help for the referees. Stelling liked Bruce's comment of it being one down, nine more to go. He also made a joke about Bruce Jnr being part exchange in the above deal. "That'll have been an interesting conversation. Son, you're surplus to requirements." It was nice to see us be given some credit. Following this, they then laid into Stoke being disappointing and signing players who haven't done much recently.
'Weren't given enough credit last season' - What, finishing 16th in the league, losing a cup final and getting in to Europe by default ?
We finished 16th, but in truth, we were never in danger of going down. We were safe well before the end of the season and all focus shifted to the cup final. As a result we dropped down the league. We'd have finished much higher otherwise spending much of the season between 10th-13th until those final 5-6 games. That was all on the back of being pre-season favourites to go back down. Oh and we beat you three times. Lets remember that
Jealousy stinks dont it, its eithe because of the 6pts we took from them or that we knocked em out of the FA Cup,
I'm genuinely surprised a club as big as Sunderland have never played in Europe - I thought one of the key criteria to being classified a big English club would have been representing your country's football association in European competition. Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Leeds and now little old Hull City have all played in Europe Sunderland have just shrunk dramatically in my eyes
They have. Cup winners cup 74. I'd ignore this tit, the Sunderland lads don't even know him. He only posts on our board.
Ok cool - then they are back to a bigger club status. I think they'll give Man Utd a beating today as well - Man Utd look in all sorts of trouble at the moment
