GUS Poyet says Sunderlandâs lame defeat at Hull City last weekend has made his mind up about several of his squad. And that admission could signal the end of several playersâ time at the club this summer. The Black Catsâ boss was clearly fuming after the hurtful loss at the KC Stadium last Sunday which denied his side an immediate return. And today, the first time he has spoken to the Press since the loss, he was still unhappy. The head coach has faced criticism for making changes to the side which performed so disappointingly in the FA Cup quarter-final tie. But as far as the Uruguayan is concerned, his players simply needed to deliver a lot more than they did against the Tigers. Reflecting on a display that he called âweakâ at the time, he said: âI have to say that it has helped make my mind up about a few things. âI already had things settled in my mind about how I felt about the squad. âBut the Hull game only produced more evidence to confirm that I was right about how I feel. âThere were too many â5-out-of-10sâ in the game from us and if you are going up to go up against Premier League opposition you canât have that. âYou need a minimum of â7-out-of-10s, from your players, eights, nines and we didnât produce that. âThere were plenty of players who felt they should have started the final at Wembley but didnât. âAgainst Hull, many of them had a chance to make a really strong point, and no-one did.â Poyet made six changes to the side which played so well at Wembley with Ignacio Scocco, Santiago Vergini, Oscar Ustari, Andrea Dossena and Emanuele Giaccherini and Steven Fletcher.
Strange time to announce it with 12 games to go. Some players out of contract might now think, "f*ck it" why should I try I'm probably one of them away. If this is the case he needs too leave them players out now and start planning with who he thinks can do the job and keep us up.
Out of contract players should put themselves in the window though. They should be the ones saying "sign me I'm worth a starting place"
You do that if you play well BEFORE your contract comes up, mate. Unless you're Mark Viduka, when you play out of your skin and as soon as you get a new contract you hit Greggs big time!
it was a bad call from him at the time ,you live and die by the same sword in management a lesson learnt im sure , six changes is not out of the ordinary for any team in the prem ,but if those six are not as good as the ones replaced theres bound to be repercussions
