Hope we don't experience the 'new manager syndrome" but knowing our luck don't bet against it Sky Bet Sky Bet are offering all new customers a £10 Free Bet Claim your free bet now Former Brighton boss Gus Poyet held talks with Sunderland shortly after Paolo Di Canio was sacked in September. And his odds to take over at the Stadium of Light were slashed on Monday morning, with Poyet 1/12 to get the job according to Sky Bet. Kevin Ball was placed in temporary charge of the team following Paolo Di Canio's departure, and has confirmed his interest in being given the job full-time. But despite a win against Peterborough in the League Cup in his first game in charge, Sunderland have since suffered home defeats to Liverpool and Manchester United in the Premier League. Speaking in his programme notes ahead of the Manchester United game, Sunderland chairman Ellis Short said that the club's long-term vision had been interrupted by the "necessity" of staying in the Premier League, and said he was determined to make the right appointment. Ellis Short said: "Unfortunately sometimes the quest for stability can be interrupted by the absolute necessity of staying in the league. "This is because the long-term aim becomes irrelevant if we aren't at the top level. "We now have a very important decision to make. Our only consideration in making that decision is what is best for the club. In doing so, we feel the weight of the entire city and beyond, along with the history of this massive football club." Gus Poyet was suspended by Brighton and Hove Albion following their Championship Play-Off semi-final defeat against Crystal Palace in May 2013, and was sacked by the club in June. Brighton was his first managerial job, having worked as assistant manager at Swindon Town, Leeds United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
Sunderland looked a different team since de Canio left even though they haven't won yet. Poyet will only improve them further and I think that this will be a difficult game for us. One thing is certain, we have to start converting our possession and chances into goals otherwise we had better get the hell out of the Europa and start concentrating on our survival in the Premier League.
Is it me, or do Sunderland have a new manager every time we play them? We should be used to it by now
He's a good manger regardless of what happened in his latter days at Brighton , he likes us as well so an additional incentive to get one over on us .I watched them against Utd (who were poor in the 1st half) and looked decent going forward but their heads dropped after Utd equalised and then from there on in there was only going to be one winner. An interesting time to play them but a win for us should be our only target , anything less then we may have problems confidence wise.
