Head coach on Swede's new deal. Gus Poyet is delighted to have secured the services of midfielder Seb Larsson, who has signed a new deal on Wearside. Larsson put pen to paper on a three-year contract in early June having made 47 appearances for the club last season. When we knew there was a possibility of Seb staying, we really pushed it - Gus Poyet The 2014-15 campaign will be the Swedeâs fourth with the club since joining from Birmingham City back in summer 2011 and has since played more than 120 games in red and white. Larssonâs old deal was due to expire but the Black Cats moved quickly once the season had finished to keep the 29-year-old on Wearside. âIt was a difficult one, because when we started negotiations with a couple of players and it didnât work out, we stopped and made a decision not to talk to anyone until we knew where we finished,â Poyet said. âThat decision could create a doubt for players of âmaybe they donât want meâ, but it wasnât anything like that. It was a matter of waiting and making a decision at the end. âWhen we knew there was a possibility of Seb staying, we really pushed it. It was very important to have a quick chat and quick agreement on the contract and get him signed. âHe was so important during the season â and especially at the end â that we were really desperate to have Seb on board with us.â
If Gus can get him playing like he did in the last 5 games for a whole season then all well and good, could be a real asset
Must admit I was pleasantly surprised at the end of last season. Showed what he can do. I had serious doubts tbh. It`s up to him now to carry on where he left off.
I wouldnt have him in my starting 11, but he can play in a variety of positions so hes very handy to have in the squad.
