Quick newsletter apology from SAFC. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear ForkHandles, I’m not going to go too deep into this, we weren’t good enough, we didn’t create enough and we didn’t adapt to the game or the circumstances. The only way to get something from a game when things aren’t going your way is to defend well and we did not do that – especially for their first goal. The goal changed the game; we didn’t come to hold the game we wanted to win it. I brought players on who are regularly in the team for us; the fans were very happy to see Fabio and Johnno come on and then two minutes later we conceded a goal. Sometimes the decisions you make work and sometimes they don’t. They [Borini and Johnson] are not responsible for the goal, but the game changed at that point. We’ve been talking about cup games for weeks and then maybe a return to Wembley; it’s over now. No more talking or analysis, it’s all about the Barclays Premier League. Next week is where our battle starts. We need to go out and create more; we’re at home so we need to take the game to Crystal Palace. We need to concentrate on the league, sometimes I don’t like to make out that a game is like a cup final but I think it’s the only way we can approach our remaining games. We cannot give any more points away, we can’t complain any more, we need to go out and be man enough to win our games. All the best, Gus Poyet
Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has revealed several of the club’s players will be axed following their 3-0 FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Hull City. The Black Cats were poor throughout the clash and were hit by three goals in nine second half minutes as they capitulated at the KC Stadium. And the furious Uruguay admitted he will be making changes as they now attempt to avoid relegation from the Premier League. "We didn't create enough but I'm not going to try to find any excuses,” Poyet fumed. "The players who played today were not good enough and that is simple - in the 50-50s, in the diving, in dealing with the referee when he panicked for 10 minutes - in not recovering well and not creating one chance. “We’ve got some weak people in there and I can assure you those ones are not going to be on the pitch next week.” But Poyet refused to pin any blame on Cattermole who was arguably at fault in the move which led to Meyler's second even before his back-pass howler. He added: "If you hide and you're not in the game and do nothing to take a risk, then for sure you're not going to make any [mistakes]. "That's the bad side of football - the ones that take responsibility and the ones that care, they are the ones who are in the position to make the mistakes - that's football." No need to apportion blame. The third goal was completely Catts fault, the second, I reckon he'd have made sure he got that if he wasn't yellow carded for nothing in the first half
"We cannot give any more points away, we can’t complain any more, we need to go out and be man enough to win our games." So so true. Time for the players to stand up and be counted
Cannot understand why the strongest team was not picked ,not very happy about the lack of intent from this selection,i would have thought after a taste of a final already another visit would have been sought. As for all the dimwits who berate hull and insist a huge fall is going to happen ,wake up boys with the two strikers they have bought its not going to happen . From what i saw today from fletcher and scocco has not give me any more of a brighter outlook or to expect either of them to produce any more than jozy to be honest, gus must now put borrini in cotton wool inbetween games as it looks as though he will and must be up front with the team arranged around him.
i can, you would expect to meet the arse 4-1 or city on the way 1-3, premiership survival is all that matters now, we had our weekend, i could not give a **** about today tbh we must beat palace
Just 1 guy to blame today if anyone's looking to lay blame. Gus. There was no need to change the team from last week. The problem is, as a manager of a squad, he has to change it around. So, as a manager, looking at the bigger picture, i.e. survival in the league, Gus isn't to blame. It's the replacement players coming into the team that are to blame. They just didn't cut it. The issue is depth in squad. And that worry's the crap out of me to the end of the season.
Cattermole could have headed the ball into to touch for the second without any bother. Blaming the yellow card is clutching at straws, he made two huge mistakes so owes us over the next few games. Gus found out yesterday just how strong this squad is.
perhaps if you did give a fkcu like me about the game today it might be more relevant of course, todays third defeat against hull has not done the cause any good at all ,its at times like this i wish a team selection was announced earlier because i would have stayed at home because it sure wasnt a team who was going to be in the semis. Always in hindsight of course meyler ran the midfield, far better than huddlestone imo, oneil you tosser
Baz you are SO rite. We were ****e from start to finish. NOT a time to experiment with his Argie January ****e when lads spent to travel again.
From a Southampton fans point of view, I can understand your frustration as we felt we threw the game away with a meek performance against yourselves in the last round after making significant changes to the side. The truth was, that on that day both sides rotated a lot of players but Sunderland clicked and performed whereas we capitulated. It seems that this is what happened to yourselves this round and it is very frustrating especially when it looks a very open FA Cup. Nevertheless while it is very aggravating perhaps Poyet believed that his squad were capable of doing what they did to Southampton in the previous round and while we have little left to play for this season the extra games that your squad has had to endure probably was one decisive factor. Credit should still be given to Hull, who after all made numerous changes themselves. I just hope for your sakes there is not a hangover from today elsewise you may struggle for a few games, albeit I believe you guys will stay up.
