Charlton did not deserve all 3 points; they were very much sub-standard! However, l feel that the manager must take the blame for the fact that we did not win.

Once he substituted BWP. we had no outlet ball; he considered the game won, and brought on Docherty, who was responsible initially for losing the ball from which the opposition scored in added time.

We still have the same old problems of not being able to defend correctly; the personnel may have changed, but the same problems remain. I have not been happy with the performances in particular of Taylor and Morrison; too much of a liability.

Hopefully we will give some of the fringe players a game against Reading; l am anxious to see RBI. (the spanish lad) together with Green on a full 90 minutes.

Whilst I can agree with some of your points to an extent, in particular with CP's use of subs and making them for the sake of it and perhaps wrongly taking off both BWP and Hayes, I disagree over the performances of Taylor and Morrison, they are a new partnership and already look the most solid pairing we've had at CB since Bougherra and Diawara (under Pards)

Don't be too harsh on them Rufus they are a new team and have yielded 10 pts from 4 difficult matches - MK Dons have yielded 10 pts from playing Chesterfield (home), Yeovil (away), Exeter (away) and Hartlepool (home) I think i'd much rather have gotten our 4 games out of the way!

I thought Taylor and Morrison looked quality, but only comparing with what we have had in recent years, no nonsence defending when needed and calmly not casually taking the ball out of danger, the futures bright lads :)

    Great shout Mart...!!

I love the look or Morrison and Taylor. For me they are the best pair of no nonsense CB's we've had since Rufus and Webster...!!

If someone had said to me at the start of the season that we'd have 10 poits from a possible 12 on the board with four tough games out the way I'd have took that all day long...!!

I agree with Rufus re Powell's substitutions. However, we have a young inexperienced squad and manager who will only improve with games.

For what it's worth, had I been in the gaffers shoes I would have stuck with 442, taken Hayes off and put Euell up top with BWP and replaced Waggy with Green. Unless he was injured I would NEVER have taken BWP off... Why...? When you're two up and the opposition are throwing the kitchen sink at you to get back into the game they inevitably leave themselves somewhat stretched at the back... what better time for BWP to nip in and do some damage...?

Agreed Franco, bringing Doherty on for BWP just invited pressure and removed all chance of keeping the ball up in Scunthorpe's half. Bringin on Euell was a poupulist move, but it didn't work. Powell must learn from that.

Taylor and Morrison will do for me, no longer to I start bricking it whenever the opposition enters our half.

One thing - no central midfielders on the bench yesterday, when someone like Pritcha would have been ideal.. Options are limited with only 5 subs, so I wonder if it's always necessary to have a goalkeeper in reserve, when he's so rarely called upon. Just a thought

I suspect euell and Hughes were seen as utility Centre midfield, but I agree with principle, I would prefer doc or Hughes not both.

As for blame Powell, it's a bit ridiculous, they scored the moment Doc came on, not because of that sub. Their first goal was unfortunate and the second was a good goal, simple. We had some chances we didn't take advantage of, that happens. Should have had a penalty, ok, you win some you lose some.

We've started well and there are lessons to be learnt but not rights to be read.

Morrison and Taylor got battered with deep balls most of the game and dealt with it well, also despite what somebody commented Elliot made himself a presence for once making the ball his and communicating with the back 4. Jackson tried to lead as the captain should. We played pretty well for most in a good game of football.

The Boo's at full time were frankly ridiculous if directed at the players.

    Rufus!

Good to see that time hasn't mellowed you. :emoticon-0100-smile

If he plays, I'm sure you'll enjoy RBI - looks really good.

Martinho, I'm glad someone else thinks that CB combination was top-notch, Diawara was one of my favourite players of our 'era of decline' and despite costing us a fortune in gloves, thought he left too early. Since then, he's been at the heart of defence in two French league title winning sides.

Quiz - who uttered this piece of tripe?

""We backed Iain, they were his signings, but I had never heard of Souleymane Diawara - apparently the best centre-half you've never heard of".

was at the ref. well, i was. told the gf i was staying after the whistle just so i could boo at him, which was a first from me.

does seem in L1 that you get all the shocking refs. the one i liked best was the turban wearing guy, he just let play go on and actually watched the game.

Cant believe the title of this thread after 4 games. Preseason i thought after 4 games we would be doing extremely well to be on 6 points, we've got ten.

I'll blame CP for the ten points we've bagged b4 i blame him for the draw to the demoted Iron.

Wasnt Rufus98 one of the biggest WUM's on the old 606 - Only ever remember seeing him on the boards whenever Charlton failed to win a match...

Rufus 98......were you at the game? I thought our center back pairing of Morrison & Taylor was excellent much better than their predecessors (messrs Daily, Lera, Docherty etc.), and their partnership will only get better and better as they play more games. Solly is improving game by game and our midfield worked tirelessly for 90 mins. I do howevwer agree that BWP should have been left on and the Docherty substitution changed the result, but Sir Chris will learn from this and we will be stronger for that. I always maintain that the best form of defence is attack.

Utter tosh!! Powell has his coaching badges, l do not! If l can spot the subs are wrong, how come a professional coach cannot? What does he have to learn; does he not know his own players, does he not listen to his own staff who must surely whisper in his ear?

I still don't see that the BWP sub made any difference. They didn't score because Docherty was on the pitch or because BWP wasn't. There wasn't enough time for that to be a deciding factor. It's simple, we had chances saved and missed that maybe could have been scored, that's why we didn't win, that includes BWP

Nice of you to ignore the most the other points raised.

We've probably played the hardest combination of games out of any team this league, yet we're joint top. I'm sure Powell won't mind being blamed for that.

Powell made the same tactical substitutions against Notts Co and Colly - and they paid off. If we had held on for 2-1 yesterday, no one would be questioning his decisions.

However, I do think BWP should have stayed on so that we could stretch the play for the last minutes or so.

In my opinion, Scunny are the best team we have played so far this season so I am not too disheartened. As many have said, 10 out of 12 is a very good opening haul from a tough set of fixtures. I would have taken that a month ago.

I merely pointed out that our center backs had agood game and I completely agrre with you that BWP should have stayed on the field. The substitution clearly cost us the game and Sir Chris will learn from this.

I have to give Scunthorpe credit, they worked hard and always managed to get bodies forward when they attacked, which made life hard for Taylor and Morrison. I agree with Captain B that we need a midfielder on the bench, bringing on Pritchard instead of Doc might have helped.
