In your opinion, pound for pound, who is the most successful Premiership team?

i.e Money spent to relative success.

Over a long period, Arsenal no question.
For this season Newcastle or ( though it pains me to say it) Norwich. Latter won't last though.

Everton for me - in desperate need of investment, top 10 more often than not, once in Champions League.

My best mate supports them and I'm out for an indie night with him on Saturday. Should be fun.... :0/

long term arsenal without a doubt, this season newcastle and norwich,in the last 3 years, i know i am bias but what ffc did after they stayed up, went to 7th place then to a european cup final with very little money spent, that year the mighty liverpool lost in the semi s, that was a massive over achievement, doubt you will see the like again for a while

Everton for me. Surprised no one's mentioned Swansea - they spent big dosh on Danny Graham but I don't think they've spent that much on anyone else

Depends how you want to look at it, for me trophies would override everything so it'd be Man Utd all day long. Since the Premier League began to 2011, these are what the top teams have spent on transfers and league titles they've won (amazingly Arsenal have spent £500,000 less on average each season than us!!) :

Club Total Spent Total Sold Nett Spend Season Average Titles Won
    1 Chelsea £744,440,000 £228,475,000 £515,965,000 £25,798,250 3
    2 Man City £649,180,000 £166,053,000 £483,127,000 £24,156,350 0
    3 Liverpool £552,205,000 £325,970,000 £226,235,000 £11,311,750 0
    4 Man Utd £483,150,000 £305,840,000 £177,310,000 £8,865,500 12
    5 Tottenham £412,050,000 £236,717,500 £175,332,500 £8,766,625 0
    16 Arsenal £341,090,000 £319,474,000 £21,616,0000 £1,080,800 3

Looking at the stats, you've got to say Arsenal have performed best given money spent but I'd rather spend a bit more and win more trophies. If you're going on money spent compared to titles, Blackburn have made money and won 1 title, so would have to be considered.

Also Superman Norwich fan who has an unhealthy obsession with our board, Everton have over 600 points less than Man Utd since the Premiership began. You might be talking about since the league started back in the 1800's.

    Sorry, really bored today............

Doubt their fans would agree with you, they don't have a small club mentality

Arsenal, paradoxically they've announced a profit of over £50 million this year but, as we all know, their season is over already...

    Tottenham without doubt (this season)

Arsenal may not spend a lot on transfers but they spend a huge amount on wages and always have done.

Begrudgingly I'd have to say it is them, back in the late 90s West Ham

With respect the total amount spent on wages only makes any kind of sense in terms of whether it is a "huge amount" or not when taken as a percentage of total turnover.

    Take this:

    http://www.myfootballfacts.com/PremierLeagueFinances.html

So in terms of total outlay on wages in 2010 Arsenal did outspend Spurs. But with regard to their wage bills as a percentage of turnover Arsenal win hands down. I'd be surprised if much has changed in the last two years. Not only are they miserly in the transfer market, they live comfortably within their means.

    Still Arsenal for me.

I shudder to think what our wage to turnover ratio is.
