Stoke winger broke club curfew twice in recent months

Sky Sports sources understand Stoke City have sanctioned winger Jermaine Pennant twice in recent months and that is the reason he has not featured for the club.

The former Arsenal and Liverpool winger has been frozen out of the first-team, having to spend most of his time on the bench.

Many Stoke fans queried the reasoning for one of their star men not being involved and now it transpires he has twice broken a club curfew while on away trips.

Stoke had managed to keep the news out of the media, but Sky Sports understands two incidents have occurred.

The first dates to December 4th when Stoke played at Everton, with sources indicating he broke the club's curfew and did not return to the team hotel until the early hours, which led to him being dropped from the squad.

Stoke had kept that matter under wraps, but a second incident occurred at Crawley last month ahead of the FA Cup clash when Pennant left the team hotel and broke the curfew again, resulting in him being sent home on the morning of the game.

Speaking on Thursday, Pulis again refused to confirm any issue with the player - telling Sky Sports News HD: "You talk about Jermaine all the time, but there are other players in the group too and this is not about one individual player and never will be and that will not change."

    Who's the snitch now?

    Its obviously still Kitson!:emoticon-0116-evilg

It doesn't really matter - the fact is that another creative and skillful player has fallen foul of TP. I'm not saying that Pennants behavious is exceptable but you have to take into account that there is a possibilty that TP instigated it with team selection, tactics etc......

There is no smoke without fire and this is another one that looks like turning bad!

Oh! Come on, Smithers, surely there`s got to be a certain amount of discipline within the club, especially the money these players are on,( and therein lies the problem!!) too much money, and couldn`t give a s--t! Good player that Pennant is, he is definately a disruptive type of person,he`s got a track record wherever he`s been!

I wonder who the others in this group Pulis speaks about are? Are they in the first team, and Pennant is getting a harsher punishment? Or is this why Fuller only gets a few minutes, or Palacios has missed games?
Or could be that there are other first teamers involved, but they've all got their heads down and cracked on, and JP hasn't?
Pennant needs a chance though, I agree it was probably right to drop him initially, and I don't know if pennant is still pissing about, or if Pulis is still punishing him, but whichever way it is, whoever is wrong needs to man up and get on with it!
There's no point TP putting Pennant in of he doesn't give a **** about training and goes about doing what he wants, but there's also not much point him giving it everything in an attempt to get back in the 11, if he knows Pulis won't play him anyway.

Yep, I agree 100%, there is no excuse for players not to be disciplined and follow the club rules! I am not defending Pennant but we all know that TP is a fashist dictator who chops and changes his mind more than my missus! Whilst these players sometime are known trouble makers, TP seems to make a habit of falling out with players at the expence of the club!

It is ironic that he never falls out with Delap, Sidibie, Diao..........:emoticon-0115-inlov

TP isn't punishing him though, there has been no fines! TP is only punishing the fans and team who have to watch inferior players play! Its just a typical TP pissin contest!

Pennant says he hasn't been fined, but he also says that nothing has happened, and there's no problem!

Pennant's reaction to the news, on his Twitter page (and before you ask, it was verified by Stoke's Official Twitter so it is definitely him)

I'm all over #skysports saying I've been fined when it's not true the gaffa is going mad

So to all the stoke fans and for the record there is no problem with me and TP I have not been fined and we haven't fallen out at all

I respect our manager and I respect my team mates and most off I respect the club and fans

maybe the media has blown it way out of proportion. I'm aslso not so sure that him not being in the team is all down to him being punished. In games where he has played he goes on a few good runs down the wing and puts in some good crosses but he does seem to give the ball away soooo many times.

    Prof,
You mean like Whitehead, Whelan, Delap, Walters - shall I go on?

I find it not altogether suprising that TP is suddenly prepared to discuss this issue (having denied one existed). when the fans are giving Pennant applause every time he warms up, and TP is trying to convince us that RS is a right winger.

Having said that, I am not to balanced in my view of TP - after 4 years of being promised progression, I have lost all enthusiasm forhis neanderthal approach to football. Tomorrow we go to a Chelsea side currently in decline - bet we park the bus and manage zero shots on target, next week we go to Liverpool (one game from Wembley) and again I'll bet we don't attempt to break our duck of not having scored at Anfield since our return to the Prem.
I don't trust the man, and I can't help but take a contrary view to anything that he says - but that is unlikely to worry him!

    Prof Pulis
I noticed the last couple of games he's come on as a sub and done really well? Yep he does sometimes waste good chances to cross but usually he's marked by two players. As was Etherington v Swansea I think it was? Hence, WHERE are Delap, Whitehead and Co?? IF our player's are doubled marked surly the other player's have more space/time to help out our forwards..

Still stick by what I've said. Regardless of HOW bad the lad maybe or NOT it depends on who you believe here.. He is our BEST chance of creating chances, same with Etherington playing the other wing.

I would go too Chelsea and have a right go at them.. but as someone's already said. Pulis will set up for a pt... TOO negative and that's why SOME of us on here DON'T like Tony Pulis's attitude towards CERTAIN player's.. are you saying.. DIAO, DELAP, WHITEHEAD ARE BETTER PLAYER'S?

If so, fine. I need my head read. (EDIT) re Pennant gives the ball away? And Delap, Whitehead, Diao, shall I go on? do not give the ball away.. WHICH Stoke are you watching? That is our ONLY downfall, we don't keep the fekin ball do we. Half the player's don't know what a PASS means. Maybe every club should be made to play in Red and White stripes, home and away. problem solved we would look like Barcca every week. <doh>

Have a nice day Prof <ok>
