I thought it might be good to start a thread that we can add to as the transfer targets come and go. I think we have to be realistic (on both transfer fee and wages) so I have gone for players who are performing or who have performed at Prem league level and I think would improve our team. DEFENDERS: Hutton/Warnock - Aston Villa Kelly - Fulham (We could ahve had him but we decided to invest 9 million into a CM instead?) Young - QPR Bridge - Sunderland/Man City Figueroa - Wigan (Although I think this is a long shot with Wigan & Martinez surviving) MIDEFIELDERS/WINGERS: Nzozbia & Ireland - Aston Villa Eagles - Bolton Hoolahan - Norwich Larsoon - Sunderland Kranjcar - Spurs Brunt - WB (Maybe an option with Hodgson going) Moses - Wigan (Although I think this is a long shot with Wigan & Martinez surviving) Jarvis - Wolves STRIKERS: Campbell - Sunderland Pavlyachenko & Defo - Spurs Rodallega - Wigan (Although I think this is a long shot with Wigan & Martinez surviving) Fletcher - Wolves Your Thoughts?
I would feel a bit bad about it but I would like to see Sigurdson, on loan at Swansea, from Wolfsburg. I don't think Swansea could afford him anyway so he may be available regardless.
For goodness sake Smithers, get a grip will ye!!!! What about Rodellega ????????????????????????????????????????
I think N'zogbia would be a good signing, and after the season he's had, would fit in to TP's "battersea dogs home" category that he's so fond of. I would have liked us to go for Moses, and yes Nicky, Rodellega too, but looks unlikely now Wigan look safe. Hutton, Warnock and Kelly are all decent shouts for fullbacks, not really been impressed by the others mentioned (apart from Figueroa's goal against us) I like Ireland too, but I can't see him being cheap, don't know what villa pay him but Man City used to pay him over the odds. Eagles would be good, but is one of Coyles favourites, so might be hard to land, same for Hoolahan, can't see Norwich letting him go, unless it's for good money, but any of Brunt, Larsson or Jarvis would be a brilliant fit too. All the strikers you've listed are good calls too, but I don't think Defoe would fit in too well, but we need someone with his finishing quality. Out of your list, I think Fletcher would be the best fit.
He has done an excellent job and was unfortunate to get the boot from Spurs! The problem for any NEW manager coming to Stoke is that they probably wouldn't have the players to play a different style of football! Fulham have a few flair players who play postive where we are struggling in that department - except for a few. I've said before, I think TP purposely designs a team that cant be played any other way - as an insurance policy!
Just a quick heads up, Pavlyuchenko left for Lokomotiv Moskow in January, and I can't see how Defoe would fit in at Stoke? Surely his height would be a detrimental attribute at a club that makes the most of Set Pieces?
That would be the issue, if we contiune down this predictable one dimesional football, then anyone under 6'4 who can run and play football will never ever come to Stoke. As a fan, it is demoralising and frustrating that we accept that we would never attempt for a proven goal scorer, a midfielder who can create, full backs that act as an overlapping winger etc.... For me we were promised an evolution and development of our football, but we are doing the exact oposite; CB playing in FB positions, rigid and flat back 4, falt and rigid CM with no pace, rarely play with 2 wingers and have no back up for injuries or poor form, no fast 1 touch striker and very little pace in our foward line! More importantly, we have no alternative way to approach a game so we continually have to set the same predictable way and when we are struggling we look at the bench and have no game changer! So sad that us muppets sit around and tolerate it!
Defoe would be fantastic IMO and he's played alongside Crouch could be that harry n Tony being best buddies there is a chance. Jarvis yes, and he scored on Sunday Rodda's but is he happy/out of contract at Wigan? Midfielders? I'm struggling to think of any decent player's who Pulis could persuade to come to SCFC Martin Jol might though.. is this just a rumour or is TP finally going upstairs? Also think Eagles could be persuaded to stay in this league.. Player's out too many to list, I honestly don't think any of Whelan, Delap, Whitehead are good enough. Apart from Wilson P and Wilson. Why not just re-build our midfield, it's carp anyway so what's to lose.
While we are playing this dire form of football it may be a matter of who will sign rather than who we would like.
Kevin Davies is absolutely ****e mate, he would be a step back from Kenwyn Jones and hes muck. Ive said it before and ill say it again we need to go abroad to get good cheap quality player. Players in the English leagues are massively over valued
spot on, we are in massive danger of playing such ****e football that no-one will want to come no matter how much money we throw at them. Lets just et rid of the main problem............... TONY PULIS!!!!!!
Ricc, The sooner the better, I don't think we would survive another year, we can't rely on others teams getting worse results again.
Nice and to the point Ric.. I said this last week, should TP move upstairs??????? I'm sure a guy like Jol would get the lads playing on the deck more. That is what's missing. And Canary Spurs I think there's a good chance Defoe might come here, he knows Crouch and visa versa. If ya don't ask as they say..
Well Potts a little nippy player would be welcome but a manager who doesn't sit on his elbow would be better!!
But what could TP possible offer upstairs??? If he is in a Technical Director role then he will have an input into transfers and style - how does that improve us! Also, why would a Jol, Rafa etc.... come and play with the influence of TP? They ahve done more on one hand than TP has done in his whole career!
