about how I hate these stories because they grow and grow and the following one in the express this morning proves my point I think Real Madrid job SPURS boss Andre Villas-Boas has been heavily backed by bookmakers to take over the reins from Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid in the summer. By: Charles PerrinPublished: Tue, April 9, 2013 Andre Villas-Boas has been backed by bookies for the Real Madrid job Mourinho has been unable to replicate the highs of last season when Los Blancos lifted the La Liga title and he has been continually courted by Chelsea. Moreover, this season has been charcaterised by political in-fighting and rifts with senior players including Iker Casillas, which has served to weaken his position with the board. Villas-Boas on the other hand has enjoyed a fine season with Spurs, and is still on course to guide his side to a top-four finish and with it secure the riches of Champions League qualification. Sky Bet football trader Chris Spicer said: "Villas-Boas has silenced the majority of his doubters this season and follows in the mould of Mourinho with his football philosophy but lacks the overbearing ego, which has caused so many fractions in Madrid, so he could well be the perfect fit for the Bernabeu. Jose Mourinho appears to be Chelsea bound Bookmakers have Andre Villas-Boas as favourite to be handed Real Madrid job "The key to his success at Spurs has been getting the best out of Bale, so if the Welshman is their main transfer target this season then acquiring his current manager would certainly do their chances no harm."
Apparently AVB's getting a contract extension from what I've been reading. I think it's safe to say there's going to be a lot of Spurs/RM links over the coming months, especially now there is this commercial partnership in place. The media are going to have a field day with it. The latest is that Levy will scupper any attempt that Arsenal make for Higuain, and use the Modric deal/ potential future Bale deal as ammo. - again, could be total bullshit. I'd be amazed if AVB went to RM. he's just started a project with us and we've helped him to be respected again. It's clear that he loves the club too.
Seems pretty unlikely, to me. The extremely long odds and press speculation probably led to a run on him, which saw the odds drop substantially, leading to further betting. When odds come in quickly you'll often get people making speculative punts based on what they think other people know.
I'd be shocked if Real even had AVB on a potential shortlist. It's just another angle for journos to talk about Bale going there, this time because he wants to continue working with AVB.
I agree, I dont think he would go but its just the unsettling efect it could have on present players and summer targets not knowing if it will happen
I bet a fair few summer stories in a few newspapers (*cough* the Mail *cough*) will run something along the lines of "EXCLUSIVE: AVB is going to Real and taking Bale with him"
To be honest I think thats not a bad deal for us.... i mean, obviously that means Rony and Mourinho coming here right?!
I don't think AVB has done anything to merit being so sought after in Madrid. He has yet to prove any tactical 'genius' in any game I've watched! He's not done a bad job considering it's his first season and it's not exactly 'his team' yet. I'm not at all unhappy with his progress so far but it hardly merits a call up from one of the worlds great teams does it?
AVB would be an idiot to leave spurs now in my opinion. He has the chance to make Spurs a consistent title challenger, and have a lot of influence on the team. That'll say a lot more on his CV, than "I managed Real Madrid, then was sacked a year later."
If rumours are true, I'd be very surprised if AVB went Madrid. Personally, I don't think he's ready for such a job. It was proved at Chelsea that being around huge egos and massive expectations from the board/ crowd just doesn't suit a young manager like him - at the moment. If the pressure was bad enough at Chelsea, imagine what Madrid will be like. Not only are their fans and board highly expectant of the team but so are the media, in England, it's all been about the two Manchester clubs. In Spain, Madrid and Barca are the two top dogs, so he'll have the media on his back too if Madrid aren't doing well. And IF he were to go Madrid and not reach immediate expectations, he could well find himself out of a job again, and so after flopping at two big clubs, it'd be extremely hard to re-build a reputation after that. AVB is with a club that suits him, we're both growing in stature and he doesn't have a bunch of players that try running the team themselves, the crowd don't expect league titles (yet ) and as long as the team play well and achieve a top 4 position, then his 1st season with us will have been successful, even more so if he manages Europa glory. But then I suppose how many managers would reject Real Madrid if given the opportunity? It's probably a once in a lifetime offer for a manager and Madrid are probably the biggest club in world football, no pressure Andre.
