"Ok boys its been a long journey but here we are away at Spurs, a club with a long tradition and great support. We also have Man City and Chelsea coming up in the next few weeks so first of all I cannot emphasise how important it is that we keep it tight at the back.

Catts, I want you to make sure you don't go to ground... its foolish of a midfielder to try an tackle an opponent to win the ball back. Make sure you don't give that Modric any space in the midfield and run fast as you can alongside any midfielder who runs into our half. If you have to use your shoulder, make sure your on the blindside of the ref.

Elmo, I'd like you to try and beat the first man with your crosses this week as we have a couple of good strikers who can head a goal you know. Now come on lad, I know you can do it, I didn't pay £2 million for nothing so don't try and make me look stupid anymore.

But most of all, what I really need to make sure you players begin to understand is that you play for Sunderland. I will not under any circumstances tolerate any player who gets above his station and believes we are anything more than just Sunderland. Sunderland are who we are and that cannot be changed, ever.

Now lately I've had my fair share of run-ins with the fans in my attempt to make sure everybody knows who we are and where we stand. I'm no longer prepaired to put up with any player who dares to believe that they play for a club that can expect to compete with teams like Liverpool, Man United, Man City, Chelsea, Spurs, Aston Villa, Everton and Arsenal. We are a bottom half club, we are a feeder club if truth be known, a feeder club for Liverpool and if we finish 10th we have won our league.

Ok boys its time to head out onto the pitch so come on show us what you can do but don't expect to beat any good teams because we are only Sunderland! Hawayyyyy"

And when things are going well and we're keeping it tight and it's 0-0 at Half Time:

Right boys - Spurs have been rubbish and they won't up ntheir game as their manager doesn't know how to do a team talk so all you have to do is exactly what you've been doing 1st half. It's not like Adebayor is quick or tall or anything and Modric and Van der Fart aren't really that good and I envisage an easy second half for us.

Just to re-iterate - I don't want ANY of you to try any harder than you did in the first half - the opposition will not raise their game so why would we need to raise ours

I notice you left Newcastle off that list, but included Everton and Villa? The rum is bitter today, yes? <whistle>

It's just a bit of a light hearted joke... Although there is some truth in there...

As we have been finishing above Newcastle for a few years now moreso due to Newcastle being shyte as opposed to Sunderland being good, I'd say we are competing with your team, although head to head matches havn't been very good lately. I suspect that your club won't be flying high to long so I wouldn't get ahead of yourself... In regards to being bitter well that just isn't my style. I think Newcastle have done very well so far this season and all respect where it is due. I still don't think it will last very long though.

lol I know it was only a joke, and I'm not one of those who sees this run continuing. However, outside of the top 6, I believe it's anyones place, one of QPR, Villa, Everton, Sunderland, Newcastle (and Stoke if they exit Europe soon) will get it. I certianly believe we have the full capabilities to be at a much higher level than Villa and Everton.
