Has anyone watched the ITV documentary-drama on the Post Office scandal? Obviously I had a basic understanding of it from the news reports, but that drama really brought it to life. Unbelievably shocking how those poor people were (and still are being) treated. They should strip the CEO woman of her CBE and present it to Alan Bates. Another thing it highlights - something I’ve personally thought (and raised) myself is the vulnerability of outsourcing a computer system, hiding behind the contract as a ‘guarantee’ that data can’t be tampered with.
Yep, what a scandal. I’ve signed the petition to have the former Head of the Post Office stripped of her CBE.
I have as well. I think it’s about 1.5 million signatories now. I was always aware of it in the background but the drama has portrayed well the issues that “the poor, little skint people” had gone through and the criminality of those trying to cover it all up!! I, like many others I’m sure, became quite angry early on about the whole debacle and heads should role. With an election in the offing, I see Rishi now wants to sort it all out properly and there are calls for Fujitsu to foot the whole bill as it was their crap system that caused it all in the first place!! And guess who Bristol City Council have signed a contract with to be their “Digital partner”… you guessed it… Fujitsu!!
I was aware of it, but the program made it seem more personal, and showed just how difficult the process was and how badly the Post Office behaved, and just how many obstacles were put in the way of justice
What really gets me is it's taken a TV drama to get bloody MPs come out of the woodwork to get justice done. Honestly, we are governed by cretins. Ps - I signed the petition over the weekend.
To be fair RP one of the MPs championed them from quite early on - it’s documented in the drama. It’s getting the senior ones to sit up, listen and take action that’s been slow in coming.
not seen the documentary but over the past couple of years there has been some action but nothing like what needs to happen. I was reading about the bloke in USA did 48 years in klink but was innocent released and only gets a pittance because the state has a "cover all policy " that gives a set amount for every year in jail. poor bloke gets out and I think he has cancer! ............. Post office people havent lost that much time... although just a day or a few days is far to much. They should all get a bona fide compensation of x15 the amount they would have have been on salary wise .. and on top of this a further settlement on what they lost suffered etc etc a minimum would be tax free and amount to £500k
She’s listened - but only after 20 years, overturned convictions, a TV drama and a petition…… Paula Vennells will hand back her CBE with 'immediate effect' https://mol.im/a/12942813
I knew of the case from the news over the years and watched the series which made me ask several questions as to why action wasn't taken earlier before most of their lives were completely destroyed. How on earth didn't someone notice at the time that there were in fact way too many individual cases to make the situation impossible to believe, which tells me more about the lies going on in the background? Paula Vennels should have her gong taken away immediately and be questioned by the police herself in regard to anything she did of a criminal nature to hide what she clearly knew were the real facts. When the dust finally settles on this tragedy I hope that all of the parties involved in the criminal, and wrongful, pursuit of the people behind the counter of the post office down on the corner are investigated fully to see what part they might have played in the fiasco. Someone at the top was more than prepared to overlook the fact that there were way too many cases of exactly the same purported fraud to be true and was more than willing to see these people hung out to dry. A another shameful scandal allowed to happen because some bureaucrats were willing to sit back and let the innocent carry the can for their incompetence and lies. It sounds like a fairy story but it happened in real life to these poor people and I hope the government pays them hundreds of thousands in compensation and deals with the liars who looked the other way to face their own justice.
Thats what you call being hauled to account. A twenty five million pound account!! Marv will think thats good work.
I haven't got mine yet and I really do believe all Bristol City supporters should get one just for their staying power.
Fujitsu seems to be getting a lot of public money: https://news.sky.com/story/post-off...368bn-in-public-contracts-since-2012-13045291
It gives the government leverage though, Fujitsu have a lot to lose if the government pull the plug on them.
