Happy in the end to have come away with a point as it was so near the end. Really pleased that again we have shown some great spirit to come back from being behind twice in the game and chuffed for Connor to have scored his debut EPL goal (and what a cracker it was too).

We have played well, indifferent, poorly and with total guts, all in the same game so a point is a fair reflection imo of our days work.

    Some minus points though?

Why do we sit back and invite teams to attack us and give away possession so easily. Why was Gardener or Catts not introduced instead of Meyler? Both Catts and Gardener warmed up for 10 mins, then straight off the bench comes Meyler, into the fray in a game he looked lost in from the off tbh and we lost any momentum we may have had up to that point.

Best moment of the day? Easy - Connors superb shot and goal.
Worst point - us sitting back and giving away the ball
Greedy bastard of the day and Chump of the day - Judas Bent
    MotM - Wes Brown
Twat of the match - Judas Bent

We have another point on board and a mixture of pluses and minuses but we head off to Old Trafford to do a City on them next week with hope and pride intact from today. Lol

    Bruce watch - 6/10

    A fair assessment there Cest.

I can't remember if it was you or Syd who predicted a Wickham goal but either way one of you was right.

The question now is: 442 against Man U ?? I would say yes, although I might change the midfield pairing.

I fancied him to score and Syd put a bet on it for first goal. Took his goal really well too but too late for Syd's bet.

To be honest, there is definitely a case for 4-5-1 at Old Trafford or else we may get over run in midfield. Gardener for Wickham or else the same team will start imo.

The 4-4-2/4-5-1 formations are flexible and can be altered to suit matches. For the next 4 or 5 games after Man Utd, we absolutely must go 2 up front again though.

Think he will drop Connor and revert back to 4-5-1 or 4-6-0.

Like you Vegas I would rather go 4-4-2 and have a go at them.

Although due to illness I wasn't there today I watched match on net, like cest it bugged me that we sat back. We were in the ascendency, playing some good stuff. Why do we do this? is it lack of confidence in the defence or is it SB settling for a point?

I'm nothing if fair mate. He stuck with the 4-4-2 and it paid off with Connor scoring and he has instilled some real spirit into the team who refuse to lie down. Thats good and he deserves the credit. If he hadn't dropped a bollock in putting Meyler on instead of Gardener or Catts for me, he might have got 7/10.

Thats not to say I'm turning but just being honest in my appraisal of the game.

Me too, and don't know about you guys but to me Vaughan and Colback looked knackered. I am sure they would both have been replaced had we be able to.

Bruce admitted in post match interview that they were knackered. To be precise he said we were "a bit leggy".
This baffles me. Surely Colback can run all day at his age ?

To be fair to him in the 1/2 time stats he had covered more ground than anyone else, about 5.9 miles, you try running 5 miles in 45 minutes, its not easy and he was sprinting turning etc...

He put a lot into the first half I suspect because Bruce planned to sub him and told him to go all out. Still maybe we being cautious on running training and not pushing too hard due to all the injuries last year?? makes you wonder if thats why we have so many CM's

I've not turned either kidda but I do want the club to turn the corner. If O Neill has turned Leicester down to wait for a premiership club, I'd love that club to be us. No question about it but I don't think its on Shorts agenda that's all. What I am doing is giving myself an ulcer banging on about getting rid of Bruce, when the club are not even considering it so I've got to roll with what we have and like it or not, its Bruce!

I agree with this, though Connor may have edged it for motm for me and again Sess showed us he's a class act

I thought Bendtner was quiet and Vaughan & Colback had a sloppy game each. For the previous 2 seasons I've consistently slated Richardson, his recent form has been excellent and I thought yesterday, he was one of our best players. Pleased with Bardhino too and Turner, both seem to be back to base after a lay off.

    For what it's worth:
    Mig 6, Westwood7, Turner 7, Brown 7, Richardson7, O'shea 6, Bardsley 6, Larsson 6, Colback 5, Vaughan 5, Sess 7, Wickham 7, Bendtner 5

Midfield was poor for me especially in the centre as we gave Villa far too much space and time. When Villa scored after the Agbonlahor free kick I thought that was it, also thought it was a nailed on free kick as well. However watched it on MOTD last night and was wondering why he went down looked for the ref and then grabbed his leg like it was caught in a bear trap cheating twat. Agree Bendtner was quiet and looked a bit out of it to be honest, Whickhams goal was excellent and begs the question was Bruce right to bleed him in gently or wrong not to play him from the off? I'm going with part 1 reluctantly, either way a well deserved point for the lads (and a scoreline I predicted) against a decent Villa team.
Cest you missed out big lump of **** of the match . . . . . . the one and only Emile I'm much better than european golden boot winner Superkev Heskey.

Just watched Petrovs goal on motd and maybe its just me but if mig had been on his line, not 6 yards out, he may have got it.
Petrov hit it well enough but he shouldn't have had that much space.

What about if he'd brought Ji on instead of meyler? Gone for the win.

As for catts. didn't play against Stoke, bolton or villa. 3 games = 7 points

No I disagree, I preferred Meyler on instead Catts (a liability in a tight game as he is slow and Villa had pace) or Gardner (not really a defensive player), we were losing midfield Vaughan was knackered 10/15 mins before SB took him off. Mind Larsson was knackered too so MacBardo had is hands full trying to close done the right hand side as Seb could not mark the VIlla LB when he went forward. However we have atm no alternative to Larsson's class for dead balls. Seb has to learn to pace himself we need him on the pitch all the time.

I also think the team put a shift in, a negative was poor marking for their first goal, a midfielder had to be in front of the back 4, neither Jack or Vaughan was anywhere near. For their second goal iwantawhore conned the ref into a free kick, did you see him grinning when he was running back after scoring, mind as they say a tiring Seb gave the ref a decision to make.

Couple of other negs, was the injury to O'Shea and Mig

Positives are young Mr Wickham is starting to look the business and Rico had one of his better days against Insomnia who is a good tricky winger. Turner would probably have won MoM if he had scored with either of his good headed chances. Meyler has more game time under his belt and is getting match fitter.

SB settling for point, in the second half he was clueless, had no idea that our midfield was falling to bits in front of everyone, Villa just had to walk through when they felt like it, some say it was great to come from behind twice to salvage a point, if it was a top 4 team I would agree, but it was Aston Villa, not a team challenging for the title or champions league, we were at home, he left his decisions late & then sent on the wrong one in Meyler, Gardner would have been better, SB, please go, you've ran out of ideas, your team has had long enough
