Well, we ended the season with a 1-1 draw at home to a very poor York City team. Nondescript first half for us, but a far better second half, with chances galore. Their keeper made some excellent saves. Good goal from Matty Tubbs, but almost immediately they equalised following a mistake by Dan Butler. We deserved to win, but that's life ! Jed Wallace who deservedly won six player of the season awards, pre match, was by far our best attacking player, followed closely by Johnny Ertl (what a player at centre half ) who is forming an impressive looking central defensive partnership with Adam Webster. Ben Close and Conor Chaplin both looked good, and nice to see another promising youngster in Bradley Tarbuck coming on as substitute. Believe we may have seen the last of Jed Wallace in a Pompey shirt . Wish him the very best of luck in the future, which for him should be bright, for he is a in the making.
One of the fans got chatting to Jed at the H&W match during the week, and Jed told him that he had no plans to leave, in fact he wants to go up through the divisions with Pompey, quoting both Southampton and Bournemouth as teams that took youngsters up with them. Of course that doesn't mean that he won't go, it's possible that the board might decide to cash in on him or his head might be turned by a lucrative offer from a Championship side, but it isn't nailed on that he's leaving Pompey.
Delighted to read that 3rd eye, but the way he applauded all sides of the ground as he went off near the end of the game, had me thinking otherwise
Everyone has become convinced that he's leaving so whatever he does is a sign that he will. Might just be that he was appreciating the looooove! Jed Wallace @jedwallace62 ยท 3h 3 hours ago Humbled by today, this is a special club .. Thankyou please log in to view this image
Waddock, among others, has confirmed that no-one has come in for him. The board said we don't need to sell him. He went off on his own so he could have a standing ovation - but if he was in serious talks with anyone I doubt if he would have played today, in case of injury. There won't be any bids for him if his agent isn't given the go-ahead to speak to other clubs, so even though other clubs might be watching him that doesn't mean anything. He kept saying before that he wasn't going anywhere and then signed a new contract. It does have a clause in it in case he leaves, but that seems to be more in favour of the club getting something for him. Of course nothing is ever set in stone, but him leaving isn't a foregone conclusion. It does sound from the conversation he had with the fan that he isn't looking to move anywhere anytime soon. Lots of other fans have quoted him saying how much he likes being at Pompey. Sometimes you just have to take people at their word.
Indeed Dev - there is no question that this season we have underperformed and that lies at both Andy and the players doors. I still think the nucleus of a good team is there and whoever comes in does not have to start again. Jed has been our best player and although he did have a dip in levels around the mid-point that is only to be expected at his age. Be great if we can hang on to him as he is without doubt a real talent. I personally think its a case of tweaks of personnel - and definitely a smaller tighter squad going forward. Only 12 weeks to wait.
Well, it looks as though Jed is going after all. Another season in the bottom basement is too much for him, can't say I blame him either. We are really going to miss him.
