Toby Alderweireld a young Belgian defender currently with Ajax, may be worth a £10M bid, he has great potential plays central and at RB, thoughts?

Mentioned him a few times. I think it was him and Boilesen that Pards was watching at Ajax, not Vertonghen. Not sure I'd want to be paying 10m for him though.

he has been rated as a £10M defender but cannot see our astute money people paying that. I rate him as a good defender with european experiance and he knows where the back of the net is. my faith remains with Graham Carr, now he is an assett that is worth £10M to us

Toby Alderweireld is two years younger then Vertonghen, but he is not as good as him. He has a great long shot technique and great endurance, but his tactical skills and defensive skills are not that impressive. He is a solid defender in the box but he can easily be outrun during counter attacks.
Goals, couldnt find better quality but youll get the idea of his long distance shots.

Would be surprised if we ended up spending £10m on a defender this summer. Realistically, Colo and Saylor are our first pick, with Willo providing a solid if unspectacular rotation option. If we did bring in another defender, he would be second choice I think, and the big men upstairs wouldn't sanction £10m for that sort of player.

Was about to say something similar myself.

I disagree - we need to look to progress. Stevie Taylor is a good, solid defender but if we can look to bring in someone better then so be it. To get to the next level we will have to have very good players on the bench be it a new defender or Taylor.

Ok I agree 10million will be for a Colo level of CB or at least someone they think capable of performing to his level.

To be fair, suggesting that Alderweireld could cost 10 million quid, whilst vertonghen might go for 15(that's what Ajax is asking atm)
I'd say he's more between 5 and 8 million, still a rough guess though.

That would be around the price I'd expect them to realistically want.

This guy looked pretty good against Utd in the Europa League. Only 2 matches mind...

He scored with his head in the 87th minute or so, in the away match. But at home he was caught on the wrong foot time and time again by Chicarito, Rooney and Nani.
Couldn't keep up with the pace.

Here's a summary of the game(Warning: Dutch commentary), his shirt number is 3 btw.

I think that underestimates his ability to be honest. he looked an England centre back at the start of the season. Of course he needs to shake off his injury prone tag if he really wants his career to take off.

The management needs to decide if Saylor is injury prone, in which case bring in someone to start, or just unlucky and still our first choice, in which case we need a 3mill or so CB to cover.

Agree, Saylor is a reat asset - when fit! That's the problem.

Pards has made it clear defence is his focus in the summer transfer market. I don't know enough about this Alderweireld though.

Yeah well said, although to be honest with saylors problems I think we have got to the point where we should be looking at first choice regardless. If his problem continues and were lucky enough to bring in someone competent at centre back he can fight for his place, or even deputise at right back thinking about it . We definitely need another left back. And we would probably get about 3 mill for Willo, who had some great games for us this season including that run at the end

anyone think big robert huth would be good for you guys? one year left on his deal and he's stalling on signing.... he's a big brute of a defender and that's what you're team doesn't have really
