According to Rick (@HullCityLive) on Twitter, Assem Allam said: "I will not entertain the fans coming to me with ideas (of not changing the name). Only with alternatives"

With that in mind, can us fans come together with an alternative that we'd all be happy with?

Personally, I think if a compromise is the nearest we're going to get to keeping our history and traditions intact, it is better than nothing and we should look into it.

I'd be far happier with a compromise (rather than accepting Hull City Tigers) if we cannot get Allam to change his mind to keep our current identity, a compromise and proposal to the Allams of: Keep the name Hull City AFC, but change the badge to a new one with just the words 'Hull City' and 'Tigers' on it - that way Allam gets a bit of what he wants, and we get a bit of what we want. Fulham's badge only says 'FFC', Leeds badge only says 'LUFC', Everton's says 'Everton' no mention of 'football club' same with QPR, Wigan and West Brom. Wolves and Norwich don't have any words on their badges at all. Nottingham Forest just have a tree symbol with 'FOREST' underneath. Bradford don't have Bradford on their crest but have 'The Bantams' on it...

The point I'm making is that if the Allams would accept that as a change, we shouldn't be too bothered by just 'Hull City' and 'Tigers' being on the badge as other clubs don't have their full names on their badges either. That way we keep our heritage, but the Allams get a visual representation in there.

    ...anyone with any other ideas?

I would prefer no change but can go with Hull City Tigers but don't want him to drop City, It will always be City when i talk about our club. Lets all look forward to this premier season and hope we have a good go and stay up. What ever happens get behind the lads

We'd be Hull City AFC - The Tigers by name and nickname, the badge as a compromise could be:

    HULL CITY
    (tigers head)
    TIGERS

    NAME: Hull City AFC
BADGE: HULL CITY & TIGERS - we've had badges before that are just a tiger's head, no words. Other clubs have words on their badges that aren't their actual club name... badges change all the time, so I think it's a good compromise if it means we keep our name.

...but I doubt Assem Allam would see that as a compromise, do you? Where-as this other option means we both get what we want.

There's no me involved in that we

Compromise means both ways, not just one side agreeing to what the other wants.

The press have all said they'll ignore it for the bollocks it plainly is, fans won't buy merchandise with the daft name on, so I'd say the compromise is we don't ask for an apology and he drops the whole daft idea.

I've had an amazing idea - scrap the name change but make a statue of Assem for the town centre. Maybe outside the City Hall.

The Allams don't want us to be called HULL CITY AFC, so if we remain as HULL CITY AFC due to having a badge with HULL CITY - TIGERS on it, I think both sides have compromised.

Note Assem said: "I will not entertain the fans coming to me with ideas (of not changing the name). Only with alternatives" i.e. he'll stay stubborn despite what fans want, so unless an alternative to Hull City Tigers is sought, that is what he will rename us.

Compromise is both sides agreeing to a little of what they don't want, to keep some of what they do want.

They can name the club Mildred if they so wish, however that will not change the history the club has, yesterday is history, tomorrow is the future and then it starts all over again.

It would be insulting to offer him a name that is already ridiculed. It's actually far more respectful to press on with pointing out why it's important to keep our history.

If he wants to compromise, one way would be to publish some of this research that shows a name change could generate any income. He says a shorter name's punchier, so he's made it longer and in the process lost local sales!!! It'll make an interesting read.

I took the opportunity to listen to Sports Talk tonight, seemed a good move with discussions on an interview with Papa Allam and news on Huddlestone et al.

What I didn’t expect was a comment which made me apoplectic. One bright spark who text in said he wants the Allams out and would rather see us back in the dark days than lose our heritage.

I was not impressed when I heard the news about the name change and it made me feel it was a terrible idea and the Allams were looking to take the heart out of our club (or the A.F.C to be exact).

But the more I have thought about it from a business perspective and thought about what it meant rather than the way they have gone about it I have concluded that while I don’t agree with it, I can’t argue against it.

From a business perspective I trust that the Allams are not looking to destroy their investment and the name change has to have been done with the hope of making some money. So what are the positives. Well it means that our brand works anywhere. We could see a ‘Tigers’ team across the world and not just restricted to football using our brand image and heritage for example we could see a MLS ‘Tigers’ side or an A-League side in the future.
Is this a bad thing. For some maybe, it could be seen as diluting our brand but then again it could be seen as strengthening it.

What does losing AFC mean, well to me it says we are an association football club but we know that already, on a day to day basis we are Hull City and we shall always be Hull City. Most people around say either Hull or City. That won’t change for the locals but for those visiting or talking about us from afar we will be Hull Tigers.

I heard Mr Allam state until someone else picks up the tab he is in charge and to make more money for the club this is what he wants to do, unless anyone has any better ideas and wants to back them with cash. From a business point of view that is fair, but from a fan, blood sweat and tears point of view it is hard to be that objective.

What is history? Well history to me makes us who we are but are we identified by our history? Some say yes but others say no and I think while we need to be true to our heritage I can’t define us in the race to stay in this league. The Premier League makes clubs change kick off times, match days, it defines and dictates the football supporters ritual, It’s no longer 3pm Saturday, football is global and is all consuming. It’s a beast few want to tame and while I don’t like SKY, the Premier League and the dominance of the big 4 clubs and I despise what they have done to football in a lot of respects but I do recognise that I want my home town club to be at the pinnacle of Football.

The opportunities with the slimming down of our club name from a business view far outweigh the emotional attachment we hold as much as I don’t like it and to be fair if I am wrong well it will all go away quietly and the AFC will creep back onto the shirts and this whole overblown saga will be long forgotten.

    1. What opportunities?

    2. In what way is Hull City Tigers "slimmed down" from our current name?
