As we can see from the Southampton v Reading game you can pass the ball all you want and have the majority of possesion as in this game .......59 to 41 in favour of Southampton but without the cutting edge of a good attack and a player who can hit the net you can pass to one another till the cows come home (remind you of any team? ;O) ). Reading to be fair to them have been knocking on the door of the Prem like us for a few seasons and only that let down in the playoff final when they did not perform (like us) they would have been there now . So now it looks like the top two spots have been nabbed so its all to play for in the lottery i call the playoffs ,its anyones to take by the scuff of the neck and claim the prize...................... Cardiff City for me ..........;o)
yea, nice to see you back JH, as for possession, if you've got the ball the opposition cant score, but if you dont have it in the opposition 3rd then you wont score either. i watched the first half of soton reading and reading look like a good outfit, good manager in mcdermott and with some investment they could be a force in the PL next season. i think we will make the play offs, we need 3 points really against barnsley to cement our top 6 status, and after that who knows what could happen?
John......... your correct of course about certain parts, thought southampton were unlucky tonight came up against a very strong Reading team who defended well. Lets get to the play offs first then worry about the other teams
Hi John. What you failed to mention is that within that 59% possesion, Southampton managed 19 attempts on goal, 12 of which were on target! So they can hardly be accused of of aimless ball possesion. If their normally reliable strike force were up to their normal strike rate, they'd have won at a canter. I agree with cvd, Southampton were unlucky tonight, and Reading defended really well. Swamp. Totally agree about McDermott - he's probably the most switched on manager in the championship. The signing of LeFondre was a typically inspired move, and for the money involved, I'd like to think that we at least considered a move for him.
agree clingo, good header from jason roberts who is also proving to be an astute signing, i remember nathan blake said in his s/w echo column a while back we should sign him and he's been proven correct, he'd transform our currently almost toothless side IMO mcdermott is a former cardiff player too, and to think where some pundits predicted they'd be after a play off 'hangover' this season, top marks to the guy
Absolutely swamp. Unbelievable to think how well we did against them this season. Just goes to show that while they were moving forward and improving, we were going the other way............for whatever reasons. Still, while others contrive to keep us in touch, perhaps our destiny has already been determined. Fingers crossed eh!
Jason Roberts was a great loan signing by Reading, A Gashead i work with was saying in january when he became available that if Cardiff could get Jason Roberts we would go up, He then put a bet on Reading to go up when he signed for them. I still cant believe i know a gashead who understands football.
Good question John, hopefully by 4.45pm tomorrow we down west will have the answer, and then again maybe not?
Whats happenng ?..............................speeling mistake just for aussie/knackerjack/hit the roadjack/nobrot ...............to make his/her day ;O)
had 2 laugh at a radio fella the other day.....saying how much bollox stats are when comparing leon britton being a better player than xavi.....on stats he is but we all know what bollox it really is init......it really couldnt be further from the truth. fk me put me on the pitch and leon britton would have a fking nightmare.....skinny ****,id snap him in half
However I would argue our possession of a Premier League place for this and next season is something you would love to have had
No argument at all swim, all lower leagues teams ultimately want premiership football. I'm slightly envious of the teams you play each week but that's about it. Don't really think about your or any other premiership team on a regular basis as you're not in the championship.
