Ok - so we are in the mire What can we as fans do that helps Firstly at the ground stay right behind the team - remember the bad run under Gary Johnson - half the ground left one of the games - the rest of the fans who stayed started singing "City til I die" and the team rallied with a late consolation goal - the next game against Bradford was a massive turning point - we lost but were unlucky to lose. We then beat Swansea and went on a run until the end of the season. LJ said in his interview after the game on Saturday that we are all in this together - I know some of you think that whatever he says is rubbish - but he's right we are all in this together. We can either fight as one club or not - what are we made of? If things are not going to plan on the pitch it's up to us to lift the players - in turn it's up to them to lift us. In turn one feeds of the other. I'm not talking about negative stuff that gets posted on here (that will happen) - but what can we do to change it Lets not just sit there and hope for something to happen - lets do something about it and get behind our team
I think the fans were great on Tuesday and whilst rightly anxious and frustrated on Saturday were great offering rally calls. I had said at half time that if it were me, I would be controversial and take Tammy and Tomlin off but LJ won't. When he did, I was quite cross with the reaction of the crowd as I thought it was right. Villa away is sold out, which for a Tuesday night is pretty impressive I think. 4 away games has at least been punctuated by the Fulham match and then 3 home games in March.A lot to look forward to
I know what we can do........ We could hurl x-rated abuse at the dugout for 90 minutes during every home game, hang banners portraying another one of our terrible managers, asking him to save us, post multiple 'LJ Out' threads every single f-ing day on social media and football chatrooms, with some made-up lies and personal attacks on LJs stature etc for good measure, until he either tops himself or breaks down and quits? Seriously, all we can do is continue to support the TEAM - and LJ, until either we recover or LJ is replaced.
We are what we are and nothing we can say or do will change the situation and although I don't think LJ is up to the job I will try and stay on the right side of the fence, difficult though it may be for me. After all the veiled promises I feel we have been let down on a massive scale but now it looks like we're in the hands of the footballing gods and hoping for the right outcome in another sad season. Ah well I suppose, and it's nice to be back home in Canada relatively unscathed.
sorry mike, but I really dont cant figure why you should feel "let down on a massive scale," when steve lansdown took the the club on we were a third rate club in a third rate stadium.now I know he aint always got it right, but spare a thought as to where we might be without him, theres no football fairy out there who makes all our wishes come true .despite what some on here might say.
This is true. I know certain users on here moan about the debt but in reality it's his debt, and it's highly, highly unlikely it will ever be asked of us to give it back. We could still be in League One, with 9,000 a week, in an old stadium with zero executive boxes, still renting a training ground (which I think we were doing). The club is lightyears ahead of what it was, and while it may seem we haven't progressed much, in reality we're just keeping up with the times, and if we hadn't made these changes, we'd be miles and miles behind off-the-field (look at the sags), with genuinely no hope of the Premier League.
In a similar vein, people love to criticise LJ due to having the highest budget of any manager before him, and it would be a fair criticism. But rather than seeing it as him having had millions to play with and that's it, it's also fair to argue that this sort of money is the norm in the league, and if he hadn't been given that (like Cotts for most of his reign), it would have been out of order. The fact that he's spent the most is more down to the market and less down to his perceived recklessness. I think we can all agree that for the most part his recruitment has been very good. Shame he can't get them to play!
I jus think we should be doing better and I base that comment on what Steve Lansdown has been telling us for years about his commitment to taking Bristol City to a better place. The stadium upgrade was part of that commitment and indeed he has spent millions of his own money to further our cause but it seems to me that the football management side of the equation has not met his, or our, expectations and I often wonder why that happens on such a regular basis especially when it comes to our tenuous grip on keeping our Championship status at virtually every attempt when we get back there. There's nothing I want more than to see Bristol City succeed in the Championship but I sometimes scratch my head when it comes down to the nuts and bolts of the footballing aspect of what it will take to reach our comfort zone when everything just comes naturally rather than regular discontent we have to experience.
I'm with you all the way on that one gdknac and you only have to go back and review the horror stories of some foreign ownership fiascos to realise how fortunate we are to have SL who tends to take the correct road when it comes down to the heart of the footballing matter.
Funny what your comment relates to above-We were just saying here at work, every year he does his speech, regards the reaches of the premiership, year on year, however it never materialises. Of course SL has done a magnificent job regards the new stadium,I don't blame LJ for wanting the job,it was a dream come true for him, however far too soon in my opinion. SL needs to appoint a top end championship/prem manager, to take the club forward and get the 27000 seats filled at the gate. SL relaxed the purse strings, and we have purchased some good talent at the gate,i'm not sure how much input he has regards this mind you, especially when he was talking about the new goalkeeper on TV and said he is supposed to be a very good goalkeeper, I will be very very surprised if LJ turns it around, i would be amazed.the team is not being directed properly by the head coach. I resign myself to league one football if LJ keeps his job. It would have been a dream partnership, with a coach, that has bcfc in his heart, and soul.but sadly it takes more than this to run a successful football team. Such a shame it has not worked, only change will improve our situation.
Especially when they sack the manager when he makes them look ugly when they take a photo with him ..... Zola fits the bill !!!!!
I don't mind people saying what they think on social media At the ground we have to stay with them - booing etc is actually very selfish and achieves nothing but erode what little confidence there was - now someone will say I pay my money so will boo if I want (as I said selfish).
