STEPHANE Sessegnon insists the first defeat of the Martin OâNeill era will not derail Sunderlandâs rescue mission. Sunderland were unable to build on a winning start to OâNeillâs reign at Spurs on Sunday, seven days after a dramatic victory over Blackburn handed the ex-Celtic boss the perfect start to his Black Cats tenure. OâNeill still faces an uphill battle to give Sunderland some breathing space over the drop zone after Wiganâs weekend draw with Chelsea left the Wearsiders just a point clear of danger. However, Sessegnon believes there were sufficient positives from the loss at White Hart Lane to ensure the momentum under OâNeillâs first win continues into a crunch clash with fellow strugglers QPR tomorrow. Sessegnon told the Echo: âThe victory against Blackburn gave us a big confidence boost. âEven though we didnât get anything at Spurs, I donât think it will necessarily affect us. âWe knew it wasnât going to be an easy game and the way we played and the way we didnât give up shows the players believe in themselves. âWe still showed a lot of courage and determination to avoid defeat against a very strong team. But we need to take some points as soon as possible. âItâs not the first time this season that weâve been left ruing a bit of luck. âWe have the ability to improve and get up the table, but thatâs easier said than done.â Sessegnon felt it was an all-too familiar tale at White Hart Lane of Sunderland failing to profit from their opportunities and then making one costly slip at the other end. âWe were a bit unlucky because we were facing a side at the top of the league and we had the chances to get something from the game,â added the 27-year-old. âFor a long time when it was 0-0, we looked comfortable and they didnât threaten us too much. âBut the match was decided by us giving the ball away too easily which you canât do against a quality team like that. âIf you give them time and space on the ball, they will punish you. Itâs as simple as that. âIn the first half, we had several opportunities to take the lead, but we couldnât take them. âThat would have made it a lot easier for us, but weâve said that a lot this season. âBefore the goal, there wasnât that much danger. âSpurs had a lot of the ball, but they werenât particularly dangerous and our defence was solid. âBut a mistake presented them with the goal and then you saw the difference. âYou saw a team who were able to keep possession and try different things to make the win more emphatic.â ......................................................................... Ok Sess, but the problem is what to do with him? Undoubtly a talent, but where to accomadate him, a striker he ain't. On the wing, maybe, but which one? Everyone will say l/w cos we ain't got one, but he was previously a r/w i believe... What to do with the enigmatic player of no fixed position..?
But from where, 1 striker or 2? Maybe playing in c/m and have the freedom...Stick him on a wing and say "of you go, show us what you got" Just don't know where to put him...
He looked like he was playing left wing in every psg game I watched, that said he had a habit of going wandering into the middle of the park on occasions and leaving his left back without cover when attacks broke down.
