I was on Twitter earlier today, and I had a little tease with the Peterborough owner, and he decided to start Tweeting me about Saints this is definitely his official account as it is linked to his site. The conversation began: @ConnorArmstrong (In response to his question at me are we looking at anyone) @DMAC102 A centre back, and another striker perhaps. All the best next season, you made L1 exciting and unpredictable for sure!! 19 minutes ago via web Reply: @DMAC102 @ConnorArmstrong Cheers pal.. Maybe 5-5 next time around...Adkins seriously underestimated manager..Hope Birmingham dont read twitter 18 minutes ago via web Reply: @ConnorArmstrong @DMAC102 I always felt he would be good after seeing him speak on Sky. Fergie turnaround was one of biggest shocks I've experienced! 11 minutes ago via web Reply: @ConnorArmstrong @DMAC102 As you're open about it now, were #saintsfc ever in for CMS? And is Cortese as bad as journo's / agents make out? 11 minutes ago via web Reply: @DMAC102 Saints were in before xmas but offer was worst i have ever seen.To embarrassing to put here. Sorry to say. Met Cortese once and was ok. 9 minutes ago via web Not much going on this time of the season, so thought some of you could find interest with this.
Haha, at this slow time of season just thought some might be interested to read this, so I shared. He protects his tweets so others can't see them. I feel rebellious haha
In all fairness and please dont take this the wrong way DTLW ...why would a Chairman disclose offers and who made bids for their players on Twitter. Does not look good on his part if it is true? After seeing so many fake accounts on Twitter ...somehow I question the reliability of this.
I'm pretty sure it's a real account, we probably bid around 1 mil and he thought it was embarressing? Well to be honest I think that's what he's worth..
Seems pretty genuine....We paid £1 million for Rickie Lambert. Is Mackail-Smith really that much better? Differences in value happen all the time. We were looking for Bargins in January and Posh didn't have to sale. We made a cheeky offer and he told us where to go. You never know if you don't ask...look at Fonte
If you were doing a fake twitter account, wouldn't you choose to be someone more exciting than the chairman of Posh, so probably true.
True or not, it raised an interesting point. NC appears to go in low when bidding for a player. If you do this when buying anything, there can be three results: you get a bargain, start a bidding war, or the seller is so annoyed they won't deal with you. I'm not one of those who think we are awash with money, but if there is a player we want it may be better to go in high and blow others out of the water. If you go to auctions you can see this in action, start a bidding war and the price can creep very high. If an eager purchaser goes in high, no one else bids and he gets his target cheaper in the end.
Depends who your bidding for. If its the crucial target, then don't muck around too much. But if its just a opportunistic buy, test the water. £1M for CMS was worth a try.
Once again I feel i'm missing something. £1 million for CMS sounds pretty reasonable. He's a player who had a good (not brilliant) season in the third division last year, has never proved himself at a higher level, is unlikely to improve much or have any substantial resale value and plays for a small club. Obviously the Peterbrough chairman is grossly deluded as to the value of players, which probably explains why he offered £1.2 million for Sam Baldock...
