Hi I know preseason is all about getting fit and getting some competitive training in but Portugal doesn't really do anything raise the clubs profile. IMO we should've in the States with Jozy singing our praises or off to the Far East. Bit of a wasted summer in brand development.
I think you are right, if we are to move onto the next level our turnover needs to increase dramatically because that's what FFP is measured by. The easiest way to do that is to push our brand and expand our market
Hong Kong was ideal last year, the cup final would have raised us a bit further. Jozy has nearly 1million followers on twitter so I can't understand why we didn't tour the us.
Way I see it is that with the state of the squad we need what's best for on the pitch this time. The hot weather training, not dragging the players timezone after time zone, it's just better for preparation. Priorities.
I am surprised that Ellis Short hasn't explored the US market, especially with Jozy in the squad as the perfect marketing tool. I also agree with Bri, we need to get the squad ready for an assault on the next level, before we can do anything. As lay people we can speculate on what is the best way, but we don't know the mechanics of running a major football club.
A US tour has got to be on the cards at some point once we're sorted. Don't some British teams usually do the US tours post season rather than pre season because of MLS' season times? I know Liverpool are over there now. But sure Man City and what not went over end of the season. Could be an option if we secure safety early.
As a business the club make some strange decisions. The ticket office, merchandising and catering being far from the best. Not cashing in at the moment and going for warm weather training and a bit of golf in Portugal is senseless. What if we have a worse season then this and sell Jozy mid season? The USA won't be bothered then. The whole of America is on a high after the World Cup and where are we?
Not really on topic, but I note a lot of Portuguese teams only play friendlies against other Portuguese teams, find that odd.

Just wondering... do you know the numbers or are you guessing? I think the club have done exactly what's right for the club. Arranging a tour isn't a five minute thing. Chances are they are found alright from the tour and also doing what's right. I'm happy with that
I know what you mean but we can't be organising matches based on how many Twitter followers our players have. There must be another way to capitalise, in a PR sense, on the connection between Jozy and the surge in popularity of footy in the US.
