I left the ground today feeling somewhat deflated after witnessing a draw and a clean sheet, strange really because on Wednesday I left the ground feeling happy and full of confidence after a 2 - 1 defeat.

I thought the team on Wednesday (first 65 mins,) is probably the nucleus of the probable starting 11 in most games to come. The side v Portsmouth was a little more 'experimental '- and its' combination needed to be tried - and, as I am sure you know, friendlies are the best time to see what you've got.

I too thought we looked good in our (very unlucky) defeat v Brighton. I said that if THAT performance is replicated in the league we'll finish quite high up the table - and will be entertaining to watch.

We'd all like to see the Gills score a bit more - especially at home - but you only have to remember how poor we were in the first half of last season ( 22 points from 25 games ,) to realise that we appear to be moving in the right direction. ( please, no more defending of corners, with all 11 in our 6 yard box - unless it's the absolute last minute ).

I've said in another thread that we have a midfield with some decent skill and definite pace - maybe we need to exploit these qualities to get us goals, and not rely on our main strikers. The midfield and their play on Wednesday night WILL cause many teams problems this season (please).

looks like Houghton is real quality from Chelsea and was missed yesterday. Shame he is on loan but at least he is with us till January. Who will be in goal as Nelson has finally impressed Edinburugh.
