Match ends with Alex Bass debut and a clean sheet. 2-0 for Pompey. 66 points and swapped places with Posh to end up in 8th place.
Thank you for your comments guys. I am looking at the final league `placings and notice that Scunthorpe are a close to Oldham pointwise as they are to Wigan!!! Difference either way being 24!! Assessing what is needed next season in order to gain promotion is an extra 8 to 10 wins. With the present squad that is highly unlikely. Maybe a 6-8 points improvement at best which would be good enough for the play-offs at least. I suppose the problem is persuading the 4 or 5 players who could achieve this target to come to Pompey, and the club stumping up the money. I remember in 1983, the club forking out huge money on Dillon and Morgan during the closing weeks of the season. I don´t think PFC have spent that kind of money in the transfer market since their PL days.
We aren't likely to be spending much next season either. This season KJ had the budget set by the PST/Presidents board and it's not likely to be much more next season. Eisner was very clear when he made his pitch for the club that he won't be throwing money at it, he wants it to be self-sustaining so he will be quite happy if we stay in this league for another 3-4 years. The fans won't be though, even if they are happy with a self-sustaining business model. On the other hand we aren't likely to be paying anyone off either so that will boost the playing budget a bit. Hopefully KJ will be able to find new players who aren't going to go off injured as soon as they arrive. I do want to see Stephen Henderson back here though, he could teach Luke McGee a lot.
Good thread 3rd eye Was a very good match. Excellent first half performance by us, with Brett Pittman not only scoring twice, but also creating numerous other chances. We fought for and won every header and challenge which was good to see. Second half and it was more even, although The Posh failed to create many chances to trouble young Alex Bass who had a good promising debut and looked ultra confident throughout the game. Great end to the season, finishing 8th. Would have been more than happy with that before the season started. Good to finish the season on a very positive note.
