Portsmouth reduced to four players as Erik Huseklepp leaves the club
Winger Erik Huseklepp has departed Portsmouth to leave the troubled League One club with only four senior players.

Huseklepp, 27, joined Pompey from Italian team Bari in August 2011 and has now joined Norwegian club Brann.

Earlier this week, Portsmouth revealed they need to get all of their senior professionals off the club's wage bill before 10 August or face liquidation.

Huseklepp's departure leaves only Tal Ben Haim, Dave Kitson, Liam Lawrence and Kanu remaining at Fratton Park.

Norwegian international Huseklepp was a regular in Portsmouth's first team and scored six goals in 28 appearances before the club's financial problems saw him join Birmingham City on loan in February.

But he has now left English football to sign a four-and-a-half-year deal at Brann, where his career began.

"Erik was a regular in the side before the situation changed dramatically here and he had to go out on loan," Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton told the club website.

"He was unlucky because after playing regularly for us things didn't quite work out for him at Birmingham.

"I think Erik feels going back to play in Norway will be best for his international career and we wish him well."

Really sad news. I hope they can turn this around. I presume Portsmouth AFC would arise from the ashes if the unthinkable happened.

Neither Chainrai nor the Pompey Supports Trust can/will buy out the cub until these four have gone from the wage bill.
Appleton can't sign any-one until some-one buys the club
If brinksmanship sees this drag on til the 10th that will give him 4 days to 'sign a team' before the League Cup 1st Round at Plymouth on the 14th!

Very depressing situation for the fans

Whilst we never got to the same position as Pompey, I still remember the donations via buckets outside the ground and the misery of administration

Good luck to Pompey and all Pompey fans

Very sorry for the fans. The dodgy bastards who did this should be in court.

Terrible situation to be in, and I do feel very sorry for them...but this did make me chuckle...

...and given our cup 'success' we'd probably still be taken to a replay.

Off to have a drink with an old friend. He and his son are Pompey fans and the last time I saw them, they were floating on a cloud of euphoria in the Prem. Think it may be respectful to wear black today...
