Looking to cheer myself up today after last night's disappointment by watching Portsmouth's impending relegation. Just noticed that Bristol City are currently leading against Birmingham which leaves Portsmouth more than 10 points adrift of safety, which got me thinking... If standings are similar come the end of the season; will Portsmouth's 10 point deduction be applied next season in League One rather than this season as we unfortunately saw?
The reason you got your ten points deduction the season after you were relegated was because you missed the cut off date. Go into administration before that and it applies for that season, go into administration after that and it applies to the next season.
No. They went into admin before the cut-off date (late March). The 10 point deduction will be this season, regardless of where they end up.
I remember at the time there being the potential for the deduction to be applied to our relegation season, just couldn't remember the cut-off date.
It's the third Thursday of March I think. Leeds going into admin at half time was particularly dubious so we have them to thank for that particular rule.
Wrong, if we had stayed up the points deduction would have been applied that season, not the next, so we would have been relegated anyway. Seemed like a bit of a double penalty to be honest.
And Brum came back to equalise. FT 2-2. You know what, I think Pompey might just claw themselves out of the mire.
