It is a pretty grim thought going to Fratton on a Saturday but on a Tuesday night it is just the pits. Hats off to those that travel down. There will of course be the usual well dressed good looking women in attendance, although not as many as at the Palace match I'm sure. Just a word of caution, on street parking is a nightmare around Fratton and the wardens work late. Most of the side streets are residents only. It is also as hard to get into Portsmouth on a night as it is leaving so allow extra time. I will be going in by train which is its own little nightmare at times. Lastly if you have not been before, Fratton Park is dire. Food, toilets and stadium, just dire. The fans are passionate, but the bell and the drumming does your head in. It also has the oddest looking pitch that I have ever seen. Sorry if it all sounds grim!
I'll be there, no well dressed wife that night just my seagull father-in-law in tow. We just park outside the ground (even though it's expensive) and have a KFC before the game.
Me+3 shall be there. Dressed in our City gear. Been to Fratton many times and yes its dire but its an old school ground. It may well soon be a future block of flats or supermarket but for now i like going to grounds like this where the toilets steam in the cold...lol. We shall have our KFC after the game and hopefully a celebration one at that on a win and 3 points. I was at Cardiff and something similar would just be the job at the moment.
I don't mind the ground, it's just like going back to Boothferry Park, but that ****er with drum wants shooting(along with that obese twat from Leicester).
Just a little info on the future of the ground. The Council have stated that if the club does go under they will put in a bid to purchase it. They will not allow housing or industry on it. It will remain a football ground only.
ive got my tickets and tuesday afternoon booked off, just hoping my manager doesnt notice i dont actually have any holiday entitlement left.. im sure ill have calmed down by then, but at the minute im not too sure whether im bothered if he does
how expensive is 'expensive'? last time we went, we parked near the pub about 25 mins walk from the ground
The one I'm thinking of is right outside the ground opposite KFC and was £10 last year. Though if memory serves me well, if you drive around to the other side of the ground there is a car dealership that charges £5 - 7 too. One is 1 minute to the ground, the other was/is 2 - 3 minutes. Go on the satellite view. You'll see McDonalds opposite the ground. The other one might have been the Milton Road one. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en...a=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=3&ved=0CBwQ_AUoAg
i ve a feeling we parked somewhere near moorings way on roadside. i remember going in a pub well populated by city fans on a 'Y' junction off the main drag
I think the pub is The Good Companion on Eastern Road. John Anthony Portsmouth Football Club Westwood is the bloke with the bell. A dedicated fan who is a bit marmite. I will say now that I will be sitting, but not through choice. My back is killing me.
Yes, the pub is the Good Companion and a lot of City get in there. You can park in the car park there. The Car Park in Milton road is now built on and it is a huge retirement home. As for me, a ten minute walk from my house down to the Goodies a few pints with mates from Hull and then off to the game. Bring some warm clothing it still gets very cool at night down here.
I got there really early last time, parked the car right outside the main entrance, then flagged down a cab and buggered off to Gunwharf Quays for a few sherbets. I'll have to set my alarm clock if I want to listen to this one, it's on at 2.45am here in honkers.
hopefully tonight and saturday against teams where we should be winning our players find their scoring boots and we improve our goal difference, as I can see it coming down to that at the end of the season.
Ill be there but never really had problems with parking down the streets near the trainstation do it every year helps for a quick get away after the match prrobably helps i going with someone who used to live near it aswell! is it still pay on gate?
Yes, mate, it is, but you dont pay at the gate, you have to go to the away kiosk and buy your ticket first. I should allow a bit of time to do it as it was a bloody farce last season.
Yeah we going up at 3 setting off from bournemouth so should have plenty of time is it the office near the gate thing under opposite stand from away end?
Im not sure mate. I dont think they are using those buildings anymore as they moved everything out of them. They were rented from a former owner who is still waiting for his thousands in back rent. The away kiosk may be down the away end I think.
