Don't think so. They wouldn't be any better than what we have now.

we are being linked with an a lot of players before the season is even through....

i can't see Lambert getting players from the bottom of the championship, but you never know if they are a 'Lambert' type player.

i spoke to a friend of mine who watches pompey when ipswich were linked to the duo and he said jason pearce is a talent. he's not so sure about joel ward - useful player but nothing more. he compared him to daryl sutch! <yikes>

Not sure about them, interesting to see what portsmouth fans say.

Defensively i think we ought to go for Tom Lees at Leeds. Think he is decent player whenever I've watching him and fights tooth and nail whenever he plays.

true redruth. you have to take each player on their merit and not just look at how well his club appear to be doing. we certainly seem to be being linked to defenders at the moment. is it paper talk because of our defensive record, putting two and two together?

I don't know anything about him but it'd be great to have another ward to go with the 2 bennetts, Rudd, ruddy etc.

<laugh> Ah yes! Of course! In fact, if the papers want to get transfer talk with us accurate they need to stick with names similar to what we have already.

There's got to be a good few Vaughans out there as well.

I can see an argument for getting a more experienced CB, who can take charge and marshall the defence. There is some scope for improvement in this area.

Agree, there is a big problem in our defence, it's very odd as most of us see decent individual performances most weeks. But I think you're right, we still need a leader in there! Our goals against is pretty terrible, correct this if it's wrong, but I believe we are something like the 5/6th worst in goals against, difference -13!

Only Bolton, Blackburn and the Woollies have conceded more at home and Wigan, Bolton and Blackburn have conceded more away. Lucky we're pinging em in at the other end eh ?

I know that there was a lengthy debate about ou lack of clean sheets, and there was considerable disagreement about how much of a problem it was (is). I think it is a substantial problem, not simply because we have to always score 1 to get a draw or 2-3 for a win, but the psychological impact of frequently coming from behind or conceding just after we've scored. Those facts can adversly effect a team's perfomance, in many ways. I also think that part of leaking goals is not due to individual perfomances, but that the defence sometimes doesn't work as well as it could in terms of it being a cohesive unit. A better leader could enhance the overall performance of both the defence and the team

good post longsight although i still side with the fact that we haven't managed to get our first choice defence out ONCE this season! any team will struggle to cope with the number of injuries we've had to contend with at the back. remember newcastle moaning cos they had three defenders out for one game - we've had that practically all season!!

Do you not think there is a leader amongst those we have? Maybe Bennet when he gets through this season and is established may go for it. I noticed him shouting the odds once or twice on Saturday.
