Clarke revealed to ITV during an interview that England players will have a visible presence of poppies on their shirts despite a FIFA ruling banning nations wearing anything that could possible be construed as a religious or political statement. ✔@Independent England players will wear poppies despite Fifa ban “My personal opinion, and actually the same opinion I hold as the chair of the FA, is that of course we should wear poppies,” Mr Clarke told ITV. 2:24 PM - 2 Nov 2016 View image on Twitter please log in to view this image Follow please log in to view this image BBC Sport ✔@BBCSport Fifa turns down a request from England and Scotland for players to wear poppy armbands on Armistice Day 4:22 PM - 1 Nov 2016 "We’re commemorating millions of people who gave their lives in wars over the last 100 years and they deserve that, and the people who lost relatives deserve that, and that’s our plan. "We're balancing respect for the fallen and their families, with respect for the governing body, and we're negotiating in good faith with Fifa to try and find a solution, but there will be poppies at Wembley.” Both England and Scotland have contacted football's governing body over a possible exception to the rule, with Scottish FA chief executive Stewart Regan confirming on Tuesday that he was working on a possible solution, reaffirming that the wearing of a poppy is intended purely a sign of respect for those who lost their lives in the war. "That is to use this match of a way of remembering people who lost their lives in the war. "I can understand why they are doing this, but it is nothing more than a mark of respect. It is a personal choice. This is not about making some political point." Prime Minister Theresa May slammed FIFA's decision as outrageous during Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday. please log in to view this image Follow please log in to view this image BBC News (UK) 2:18 PM - 2 Nov 2016 "I think the stance that has been taken by Fifa is utterly outrageous," May said. "Our football players want to recognise and respect those who have given their lives for our safety and security. I think it is absolutely right that they should be able to do so. "I think a clear message is going from this house we want our players to be able to wear those poppies and I have to say to Fifa that before they start telling us what to do they jolly well ought to sort their own house out." Well done the FA I reckon. FIFA should stick to being corrupt. It`s what they do best.
I will wear my poppy with pride & any **** who is offended by it can go **** themselves & suck my hairy plums.
Can't believe FIFA are trying to pull this. Apart from anything else they don't need the PR given how people already think they're corrupt pieces of ****.
Was at my uncles funeral on Tuesday, he'd specifically asked for no flowers and anyone wanting to could donate to the British Legion. I swear there wasn't a man, woman or child attending that didn't wear a Poppy, a brilliant show of respect to him and the fallen hero's. **** FIFA and the corrupt ****s who run it, wear your poppies with pride lads.
I detest everything about FIFA.....That hatred has just increased with this. Insensitive corrupt bastards
FIFA can kiss my arse piles. Who the **** do they think they are? Still a dictatorship, still as corrupt as ever. Nothing has changed since they got rid of Sepp Twatter. And well done Teresa May for telling them to get tae ****.
I hope Wembley is a sea of red poppies next Friday, not often I want us to stand hand in hand with the skirt wearers but this I'd be happy to make an exception for. A massive "**** you" is in order for FIFA, much bigger than this, I'd love it if every elite FA got together and agreed to form a new governing body.
My thoughts exactly. Whatever the players do or have to do , hope every man and his dog from both nations wear a poppy. Maybe loads of flags and banners with poppies on them too. If those guys hadn't given/risked their lives maybe there wouldn't be a FIFA for these corrupt idiots to preach from while lining their pockets.
FIFA sanctioned the Irish Football team when they requested to wear slogans on their shirts commemorating the Easter Uprising, but refuse to let the UK teams to wear poppies!!! This tells me everything I need to know regarding FIFA..
Maybe its one big set up so the fans all get on in good spirit. (Obviously it isn't and FIFA are a bunch of *****)
How can FIFA ban poppies ? they have no political power. I buy poppies from anyone who sells them, the army were in Tesco's yesterday and must be proud of what they do. Next we will get banned wearing crosses like the news presenters, well they won't stop me.
Only got to look towards the leader of FIFA he is a Swiss /Italian, fantastic, one nation who does not fight and the other who cant, and yet both make outstanding weapons in Berretta and Oerlikon
Is there another lead organisation throughout the world be it sport or industry that is despised and mitrusted to the level FIFA are. It seems whatever they do they get it totally wrong, they have replaced Blatter and his cronies but nothing has changed within the organisation, the whole thing needs dismantling and as others have suggested its time for individual FAs to break away and form a separate governing body, but I can't see that happening.
Today I am very proud of our Prime Minister for standing up for this right. Get the ****s telt Trees hinny. I think it's very apt that we should do this seeing as how we are playing Scotland on remembrance weekend. Hundreds of thousands of English & Scottish men died on the battle fields of WW1 & WW2 fighting side by side. **** FIFA, I wouldn't spunk on them if they were burning. Peace & love to all.
I'd go further than the FA though. Instead of a small poppy on a black armband I'd put a bloody big one smack in the middle of the chest. I heard that new FIFA lass from, I think, Senegal on the car radio the other. She made herself sound as ridiculous as you can imagine. It's not often I scream at the radio, okay maybe I do, but I woke the wife up this time!
FIFA intend to punish England and Scotland for wearing poppies last week. ****ing rats, I hope our FA and other country's FA take them to the cleaners.
