As I mentioned earlier, he has his reasons and, whether you think they're wrong or right, you should respect his choice. Whilst I may not think he is doing the right thing I admire his single-mindedness in refusing to change his decision merely to play. In a way he reminds me of someone, can't quite think of the name...

McLean is quite happy to earn his crust playing in England, with many supporters of the clubs that he has played for who have served in the British army, had loved ones killed or maimed while serving in the British army, some of them no doubt killed and tortured by IRA scum. He is quite happy for these supporters to contribute to his over-inflated pay packet, but develops principles when it involves wearing a poppy to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice protecting UK citizens (of which he is one).

He should take his principles back to the League of Ireland and play there, forgoing the kind of wages that he can only get playing for an English club.

We have a truly diverse population playing football in England, with many Argentinian, African, German players etc no doubt having relatives who suffered at the hands of the British army, but who recognise that the poppy is not about supporting a side in any past or present conflict, but about remembering those who paid with their lives in conflict. James McLean is the solitary arsehole who just doesn't get it.

Smiffy, I know you. You're the cu*t what was on the Mackem Board last year talking about the Northern Irish people as if they were dogs. And now you're scouring the Boards on Remembrance Sunday to kick up a stink again. You've no respect for the fallen. None whatsoever.

I remember your disgraceful slurs last year and I put you in your place. Now kindly piss off back to your smelly inbred pals up there in smoggyville.

    If you please.

No, just McClean at the moment. Thing is, the poppy represents the sacrifice people from all walks of life have made in order that I can voice my opinions, and therefore I will do just that. If anyone doesn't like my opinions, that's fine by me. **** this PC ****.

I'm not sure they sacrificed their lives so some closet arse-bandit can rubbish gays that have the guts to come out. Your views on homosexuals are closer to Nazi Germany than the men who fought and died from these Isles.

They say always beware of the quiet ones and now I know why!

What an ill informed statement. Take your blinkers off and see if you can remember what I actually said rather than some half arsed attempt to guide this post in another direction. To use the term 'arse bandit' reveals more about you than anything I said. You're not very good at this are you?

Sheff, I'm not the one who threatened violence (or strongly insinuated it) on a footballer for not wearing an emblem on his shirt. He might be a clown for not doing it but your reaction is bat sh*t crazy pal. Yourself and that other Makem plank need sectioning if this kind of thing winds you up so much.

Have a look at Soopers post above. That's what a measured response looks like.

We have poppies sewed into our shirts

please log in to view this image

Shirts will now be actioned off with all the money going to the poppy appeal

Our club are superb with the remembrance fixture, we was the club who came up with the idea of putting poppies on the shirts and we have a helicopter deliver the matchball for the home remembrance fixture

And I completely respect your opinion mate and your right to express it. :emoticon-0150-hands

It will only develop into something it shouldn't if you cause it to.
For the record........I didn't agree with the invasion of Iraq.

Thing is though.......you're completely missing the point of Remembrance Day. It's not to pick and choose which conflict you want to remember the fallen from and which one you don't.
I didn't agree with the invasion of Iraq, but I honour all those who fell nonetheless. We are remembering our dead from ALL the conflicts since World War 1, whether we agree with those conflicts or not! The poppy is not muddled in any way.

YOUR interpretation of what I said is YOUR opinion not mine. Again, you've revealed more about yourself than anything else. Your ignorance to deal with your crass 'arse bandit' comment is also duly noted. Keep digging. It is you, Sir who is making you look like a plank. If all you can do is be abusive rather than man up and accept your shortcomings, you should take a long hard look at yourself or indeed, take your own advice and get yourself sectioned.

    Cue more drivel:
