Poor Old Pompey

Discussion in 'Southampton' started by St. Luigi Scrosoppi, Feb 23, 2012.

?

How will you feel when Poor Old Pompey finally get shut down for good?

  1. I shall be glad to see the back of them.

  2. I shall miss having them to hate.

  3. I shall weep crocodile tears so I don't appear to be a nasty person.

  4. I shall feel sorry for them and really miss them.

I will crack open the finest bottle of champers, dress up like Keith Floyd, head down to fratton park... stand behind the reporter announcing the clubs death, walk up and lift my glass full of champers towards the camera and simply say...

    '' I 4-1 am laughing now''

either the above slogan or... laugh hysterically at the camera and end the said laughter with '' 2 FA CUPS AND ONE LIQUIDATION... BURN IN HELL PFC''.

I have been singing along to this for the last couple of days. For some reason I can laugh louder than the jolly old policeman.

I just want to see them slide down the leagues, but not disappear from football or be liquidated. <ok>

Why would it matter if they did? A phoenix club would form that would be no lower that Blue Sq South level and would soon reach the Football League again.

Because they'd get a nicer ground out of it! Most parks across the South are an improvement on FP.

Godders, you need a I-will-miss-the-rivalry-for-a-while-but-I-will-get-over-it-reasonably-quickly option. This doesn't suggest love nor hate, but that a situation that has been hanging around is now resolved. I'd vote for this option. Your others require too much emotional effort on my part.

No offence Pompey pepys reading this thread [if you are]. Good luck with keeping PFC going.

The best thing that could happen to PoorOldPompey is that they become a Communiy Club. They'll have no money and be just like Exeter stuggling at the bottom of Div 1 and the top of Div 2.

That will leave us free to enjoy the delights of being a PL club and the top team in the south with our rivals being Reading and Brighton, an opinion I have maintained all along but which many of you have dismissed.

Just a question for the oiginal poster. How many of these "poor old pompey" threads are you going to do? Its getting somewhat tiresome. I dont think it would be quite so bad if you didn't keep using that phrase which is both mocking and implies that you feel we're trying to get sympathy.

Not half as tiresome as PoorOldPompey blaming everyone else for their problems.

    Who? When? Where?

I blame Gaydamak, Al Fahim, Al Faraj, Chainrai and Antonov for spending and spending and spending while never paying off debts, never paying tax and driving us into the ground. I place some blame on the Premier League and the Football League for not doing proper owners checks and allowing anyone to take over regardless of whether they had the money or whatever dodgy stuff they may have been involved in or whether their business plans were sustainable.

That, as far as I can see, is perfectly reasonable.

Portsmouth are in this situation because the people running the club did so on an unsustainable plan with no regard for the long term future of the club or even the debts they were amassing. This is the fault of the owners and the club and most Pompey fans accept this. We are not asking for sympathy, we do not expect to recieve any. Your mocking of this situation and your attempts to imply we are begging for sympathy is getting very tiresome.

He does he a point though Godders. It is getting a bit tiresome waking up to, or coming back to the forum to, yet another Pompey thread. I'd rather talk Saints or have another quiz thread.

Ooooh let's have another quiz thread.

Question 1. When do think Poor Old Pompey will go out of business?

I feel for them as a club at present mainly because my 92 year old father in law who is in hospital and is unlikely to come out has supported them since a boy and has a more corinthian outlook to sport. He has never slagged off the Saints in the thirty years ive known him and has talked to me with passion of the days during the forties and fifties when he travelled 35 miles every saturday to Fratton and back by bus to witness there real glory times a real football fan for me.We have at times entered in a bit of banter as any rival fans would but trust me the world of all us saints would be a far poorer place without Pompey around as the excitment of the forthcoming derby will prove . If you want to despise anyone save it for the charletons who have destroyed Pompey

All this brings back to me why I feel the rivalry is petty and pointless. It brings out the worst in people. Whether its thuggish behavour or spiteful gloating at the other clubs misfortunes. Makes me lose faith in humanity sometimes.

Must say it's beginning to drive me off this forum. I don't look forward to coming back when all we have is replies to endless bloody Pompey threads.

When you say PoorOldPompey you must say it in that soft cringing voice you reserve for talking to people whose cat has just died or when you say there there let me kiss it better to an upset child.

We need Pompey, if only for the rivalry and the gloating that we're better off than them so i voted "I shall miss having them to hate"
