I think a majority of Reds would agree that a "traditional" goal poacher would be top of our shopping list come January (feel free to argue to the contrary however) and I was just pondering the possibilities that may be available if Kenny is looking to strengthen this area either in the Jan or summer transfer windows. We have created a plethora of chances this year in front of goal and really could have had another ten goals so far. Is this just a case of bad luck or are we missing something in the scoring department? I was thinking yesterday watching the Spurs game that Defoe can't be happy warming Tottenhams bench and might just be be worth a cheeky bid (age may be a barrier to this one), he certainly knows where the goal is. Thoughts and suggestions...?
That would be the sort of buy Hodgson and Rafa would make and that instantly makes me wary (they got a few gems in each batch of average players). Certainly if we are fighting for Europe in January we can attract world class young talent? I agree that we need a goal poacher but to show ambition is important in approaching future players. Would a future Aguero or Suarez like to play with world class stars or with the likes of Defoe? Sure he might be useful but in the long run a big name would help more. Perhaps Jovetic though he's just signed a contract extension?
My judgements being compared to Woys??? Outwageous In fairness the Bellamy signing is likely to be a stop gap (if you call 2/3 seasons stop gap) and that's not necessarily a bad thing if it allows time to either develop the likes of Morgan from the reserves or to give time to find the new young Suarez/Aguero etc. Just a thought as I've seen a ruck of posts recently about finding a natural goalscorer and couldn't help thinking Defoe may be possible to tempt if he thinks it could get him closer to the Euro 2012 squad (and it's hard to argue he's not a decent goalscorer).
Cant see us making any signings in january tbh,FSG's finances have took the knock in the global economic downturn.
I think Maxi will go in jan,he aint getting enough games to keep him happy, and his goal a the weekend will have reinforced his belief in himself and make him more determined to leave if hes dropped again against City.
Possibly but I do think he did enough in 60 mins to push himself forward for more starts going forward. I'm not sure Kenny will be too keen to sell and weaken the squad come January unless he's bringing in replacements.
It wont be down to Kenny's feelings on the matter if a good offer comes in for him though,FSG in the current financial climate would probably bite their hand off and tell Kenny to promote a youth player to the bench in his place.
I think we will sign players in Jan , not sure who though.I think we will keep Maxi ( mainly as hes Luis best mate),and I would say we need a right mid more than a striker If Maxi goes I think a new south american may come in.Can see aurelio going in Jan though One of reasons that I think we will get someone is the amount of alleged scouting Comolli has been doing this season Marin,Lucas Moura,De Jong,Boudebouz,Strootman,Reus,Goetze all ben watched thid season
I keep hearing this call for a poacher and it concerns me. If we did buy a poacher then we would have to adapt our present style of play to meet his needs. My worry is that, in so doing, we lose the momentum that we currently have in our attack. After all it's not chance creation that we are lacking.
No it's chance taking we're lacking...which is my point Anyway don't let it concern you too much mate I'm pretty sure as a group we have little influence on transfer policy I do appreciate where you're coming from though I don't want us to bring in players who'll upset the balance but lets be honest we need to keep converting chances as we did on Sunday. It's been our only serious weakness so far and if we can address that somehow we will be all the better for it
I agree - it's all well and good creating the chances but if no one can finish them, then we won't win the games. We all had high hopes on Carroll being this man but he's not ready yet and does not fit our style of play. I would like another Suarez - not in terms of style, but a player in his early-mid 20's, has a good record, not the hottest property on the market but still known throughout Europe. Having this player will take pressure of Carroll and will allow him to develop at his own pace. Of course, this will create competition for Carroll and its up to him if he wants to pushi himself harder.
If you look at the table you will see that Norwich, Bolton and Blackburn have scored the same amount or more goals than us!!! If that doesn't mean we need a goal poacher I don't know what does! It doesnt matter how many chance's you create if you cant put any of them away.
As for Defoe, I'd say no way!!! I think spurs style is not compatible with ours thats why Keane was a complete disaster despite being good for them. I think we need to look at someone young(ish) from a lesser CL team Cavani is my choice at the moment but there are plenty of others.
