Having notched up a morale boosting away win at Doncaster at the week-end, we can hopefully look forward to seeing Pompey inch further away from the danger zone in the coming weeks.

However, that said, we are still, as things stand today, in a very real relegation dogfight. Without wanting to tempt fate i would suggest that Preston and S(c)unthorpe will fill two of the relegation spots, but the third could end up being occupied by any one of the next eight sides.

One thing in our favour, if it goes to the wire, is our goal-difference of -5 (equal with Middlesbrough), compared with -11 for Bristol City and -21 for Crystal Palace and Sheffield Utd.

All three of those sides visit Fratton Park in our next seven games, which consist of a plethora of six-pointers:

    Saturday, 19 February
    Barnsley at home

    Tuesday, 22 February 2011
    Crystal Palace at home

    Saturday, 26 February 2011
    Ipswich away

    Tuesday, 1 March 2011
    S(c)unthorpe at home

    Saturday, 5 March 2011
    Sheff Utd at home

    Tuesday, 8 March 2011
    Bristol City away

    Saturday, 12 March 2011
    Middlesbrough at home

With 5 of those games at Fratton Park we should know by 12th March if we are sitting pretty or in the doo doo.

How do you think we will fare?

I think we are 9 maybe 10 points from safety so only have to win half of the 7 games against the teams below us, 5 of these are at home. Sounds do-able, but this is Pompey we are talking about!!! I agree that we will know by the 12th, but hopefully sooner.

I've just looked at the average points needed to stay up over the last 8 seasons. Works out at just over 50, so 51 should be safe. Therefore we need another 16 points not 9-10 as I first thought (I'm just not used to these lower leagues!) <doh>
Anyway, thats only 5 wins and a draw! :emoticon-0101-sadsm

50 to 51 will be more than safe you will probably get away with something in the middle to high 40's. A good target to aim for is obviously the 50 mark. Continue the type of score you got last weekend and you will do OK. Continue with your seasonal average points will bring in around 49 points. I reckon you will be safe if you do that. Then if the Saints take their finger out we just might be up there with you. <ok>

Re the OP, I think you are confusing Pompey with Fulchester United. I think for them away goals counted double......;)

I feel we should be able to win 4 out of the 5 home games
