Portsmouth have been given special dispensation by the Football League to start the season on zero points despite being in administration.

Football League rules state that clubs who begin a season in administration start on -10 points.

But Pompey will now be penalised as and when they exit administration.

However, administrator Trevor Birch said he was hopeful of avoiding a points deduction altogether, once a takeover of the club was complete.

"I'm encouraged by the League's decision to postpone any possible points deduction until it receives an application for membership by the Trust," said Birch in a statement.

I know it's double standards yet again by the FA but I don't think anyone wants to see Pompey fall through the trap door again as that may be the final nail in their coffin. They need some stability now and punishing a team that's already down and out with a points deduction that could ultimately lead to their relegation would just make their financial situation worse.

When they are out of Admin they should be open to all rules and regulations otherwise whats the point. If they have not resolved their clubs problems then they should stil be in administration them. The league was not so willing to help us, they wanted to hammer us with the backing of the majority of other clubs. The FL, FA and EPL are pathetic lot of people who are just intersted in MONEY not clubs or fans anymore.

This is complete ballax, reeks of double standards.
Rangers are a bigger club and that lot had to fall.

It is double standards, but i wouldn't wish a points deduction on Portsmouth, and i'm happy for them its been removed.

Well the administrators seem to be doing a reasonably good job at cost cutting. They got every last player off the books.

As far as I'm concerned if they have to go down to League Two, then they have to go down to League Two. Rules are rules. We didn't get dispensation, why the **** should they?

If the administrators do a good job then, with good financial management, they should be able to find some stability even in League Two. It's not as if they are that big a club that they can't survive out of League One.

How many times have Portsmouth had points docked already for effectively the same administration (although technically it may be more than one)?

Err, do you mean 25 points ????

10 points for going into administration, and 15 points for acting improperly whilst in administration. We broke league rules whilst in administation as we only either had the money to pay either the staff and players or the HMRC. We made the wrong choice....

I'm aware of the 25 points but the 10 points was fair enough in my eyes, the 15 points was bullshit and we deserve them back now. Then we may have a chance of promotion...

Pompy have got to be docked 10 points when they come out of administration, otherwise it'll stink and there could be legal wranglings from other clubs, that the FL will have to respond to. Under FL rules any 'serial offenders' which means clubs who are constantly going into administration, can have much more than 10 points deducted. Luton Town were crippled by the FL and their new owners that did everything correctly and came out of administration with a CVA and got rid of the whole previous board, who were criminals. They had 35 points docked which sent them tumbling out of the FL. Pompey are serial offenders, and though I don't like it, they have to be punished like for like otherwise the FL are going to look like ****s.

The FL are the main problem because they haven't done a fit and proper test on some of these joke owners. If they had have done their job properly Pompey wouldn't be in this mess, just Like Luton if the FL had done what they should have done

I think the FA are just doing this to keep things as sweet as possible until someone buys the club, then they'll get deduction when they come out of admin, they're a long way from being in the clear yet.

Luton Town had new owners, also had a CVA in place, but were battered by the FL. Pompey still have no new owners and if its not resolved in a few days, then have to go into liquidation. How can this club carry on, and how come the FL have allowed them to sign 13 new players ffs. Who are these players working for because their's only the adminsistrator running it, and he has to sell or liquidate the club in days. Clubs in administration have a transfer embargo, so why are they allowed to bring in players - lets face it they should be gone by now if the rules were applied, because they are in no fit state to carry out their fixtures. If they are liquidated, what happens to results and those who will now not be playing them???

    Fooking joke

Along with the -10 there are apparently a whole raft of financial restrictions as part of the same package.
