It is not what either set of fans wanted to be competing for, but Sunday’s Fratton Park contest sees a battle to secure eighth spot in League One. Pompey welcome Wycombe to the south coast (12pm kick-off) knowing that a draw would be enough to remain above their opponents in the final League One standings. The contest also provides the hosts with an opportunity to extend their unbeaten run to 11 matches ahead of the summer break. Both sides have young managers at the helm, with John Mousinho and Matt Bloomfield former team-mates at the Chairboys. The latter racked up more than 550 appearances for the club before hanging up his boots last summer. He returned to take up the managerial post back in February following the departure of long-serving boss Gareth Ainsworth to QPR. It has been a strangely quiet conclusion to the campaign for Wanderers, who in the past three years have reached the play-offs twice, with a final day drop from the Championship sandwiched between. They triumphed 2-0 – courtesy of goals from Anis Mehmeti and Garath McCleary – when the teams met at Adams Park before Christmas. But Wycombe are still searching for their first league win at Fratton Park, with both of their previous successes coming in cup competitions. TEAM NEWS Ronan Curtis (knee) and Jayden Reid (knee) are both missing, while Zak Swanson is unlikely to feature after returning to training following a groin injury. But Denver Hume and Tom Lowery have both recovered from knocks and are available for Sunday’s game. Jack Grimmer is likely to miss out for Wycombe after suffering a concussion and the visitors could give some fringe players a chance to impress. Half time. 1-1. Very good first half with end to end football from both teams. Wycombe took the lead in the 31st minute with a goal from Gareth McLeary after a mistake by Josh Oluwayemi. Pompey equalised in the 44th minute with a headed goal from skipper Marlon Pack from a corner by Michael Jacobs. Lewis Wing of Wycombe was booked just before half time for a bad foul on Joe Morrell.

Another draw adds to our unbeaten run. But not just another draw.- perhaps the best and most entertaining football we have seen from Pompey this season!! The Lowry, Morrell and Pack mid field was key with Lane and Jacobs chiming in.- and later Piggott coming on and playing well. Not often have we been able to say all forwards had good games.
Final whistle. 2-2 draw. Tremendous second half. As pompeydownunder says, probably the best performance by Pompey all season! Wycombe went ahead in the 54th minute with an excellent, audacious, shot from some distance by Lewis Wing catching Josh Oluwayemi off his goal line. In the 64th minute poor Josh Oluwayemi went off injured with concussion after receiving a kick in the head by Sam Vokes. He looked in real trouble, staggering off the pitch. Pompey replaced Josh with Matt Macey, and replaced Michael Jacobs with Joe Pigott in the 64th minute. Marlon Pack was booked for a foul in the 69th minute. Pompey scored a well deserved equaliser in the 72nd minute, with a superb diving header from Paddy Lane (his first goal for the club) from a searching cross by Joe Pigott.

Just watched the highlights. Both Wycombe goals were pretty ridiculous and the unfortunate josh oluwayemi must put his hands up to both of them. Such margins, when two points are dropped is the difference between being top six and mid table. More discipline next season could be the difference
