Pompey will look to bounce back from midweek disappointment when they host Sheffield Wednesday in front of the Sky Sports cameras this evening (8pm kick-off). Defeat at Cardiff saw them fall to the foot of the Championship table on goal difference, although a win tonight could still see the hosts climb out of the bottom three. Their opponents are four points better off in 18th position and head to the south coast off the back of Tuesday night's 0-0 draw with Swansea at Hillsborough. Danny Röhl's men thumped Plymouth 4-0 on home soil on the opening day, but have won just twice in the league since – beating West Brom and Coventry. It comes after they spent almost the whole of last season inside the relegation places, only to secure survival at Sunderland on the final day. Following tonight's contest, the Owls switch their attentions to trying to reach the quarter-finals of the Carbao Cup, seeing off Hull, Grimsby and Blackpool to set up Tuesday's trip to top-flight Brentford. Pompey were beaten 1-0 on the south coast when these two sides last met for a League One contest in March 2023, having drawn 3-3 in the reverse fixture on the opening day of the season. The last time the Blues triumphed against Wednesday at Fratton Park was in October 2000, when Thomas Thøgersen and Steve Claridge struck in a 2-1 victory. TEAM NEWS Pompey have doubts over the fitness of Paddy Lane (Achilles), Nicolas Schmid (head) and Jordan Williams (hip) after the trio were all injured during the first half at Cardiff on Tuesday night. Jacob Farrell (knee) and Conor Shaughnessy (calf) are still sidelined, while Will Norris (knee) and Zak Swanson (heel) are also unlikely to feature. Ibane Bowat is set to miss the the rest of the season with a serious knee injury, with Colby Bishop continuing his rehabilitation from heart surgery. Nathaniel Chalobah (calf) is missing for the visitors, but former Blues players Di'Shon Bernard, Jamal Lowe and Michael Smith could all feature.
