If I recall my words in a previous post, I did say Pompey would eventually settle down in this division and make steady progress towards the Top 6 in readiness for an assault on at least finishing in the play-off places. KJ will not settle for mid or even upper mid-table finish, nor will the US owners of the club. Looking further ahead, you wonder how many of these players could survive in the Championship. I suspect a few could, McGee for example. But that is for the future. Let's enjoy the football on offer, hope for a good FA Cup run, at least to Round 4 and a chance to play someone like Manchester City at Fratton Park.
Thoroughly enjoyable watch - we were excellent in the first 45 and defended really well when called upon. Clarke & Burgess at the back were immense. Thompson also had a very good game. Hawkins took his goals with aplomb and Bennett very busy and threatening, Close continues to quietly impress. A very good day at FP. Ides I think a top 10 finish would be a real achievement, anything else I'm not sure we are ready for.Two tough games coming up which will show a bit more of where we are. What was great was to see a pretty strong bench and the fact we have some very good players due to come back from injury. PUP.
I often look at the team sheet, and really pleased that KJ is showing great faith to Jamal Lowe. If this guy could score a few more goals that would elevate himself andPompey towards the top of the division. Are Pompey playing with more pace than under Cook's tenure?
Speaking of Cook, both he and Pompey made the right decisions. He was probably looking at the law of averages that rarely sees managers in the post any longer than two years.
Jamal Lowe is playing very well Ides, and provides tremendous pace and width. Definitely one for the future. We are playing a more attacking game, with more forward passes compared to the sideways and backward passes played most of the time under Cookie. Quite a bit of pace injected into the squad by Kenny Jackett, who definitely can pick out a decent player, even from non league sides.
He's playing two regularly that were playing non-league last season. Well done to him and both players
