Pompey will look to secure cup progress for the second time in a week when they host MK Dons on Saturday (3pm kick-off). They enjoyed an impressive victory at Ipswich on Tuesday night to reach the last 16 of the Papa Johns Trophy. Now the higher profile prize of a spot in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup – where the top two tiers join the competition – is at stake. Both sides saw off sixth tier outfits to reach this stage, with the Blues battling from behind to win at Hereford, while their opponents trounced Taunton 6-0 on home soil. The Dons have made a slow start to the League One campaign and currently sit inside the relegation places, heading a bunch of four clubs with just 14 points. But they have enjoyed the other competitions, also remaining in the Papa Johns Trophy and with a Carabao Cup clash against top-flight Leicester to look forward to next month. Saturday will be the first ever FA Cup meetings between the sides, although there have been plenty of league contests in recent years. It was the club from Buckinghamshire who came out on top in both of last season’s fixtures, winning 1-0 at Stadium MK and 2-1 on the south coast. In the event of a draw after 90 minutes on Saturday, a replay will be held at Stadium MK.
