Mansfield to their credit came to attack us rather than "park the bus" ! Made for a good game. We were aided by the Stags having two players sent off in the second half, for some shocking challenges on Pompey players. Up to 4th in the table, just 4 points behind second placed Carlisle, and 3 points behind third placed Doncaster.
Spooky that. I seriously was just going to ask you where today's matchday thread was and why you don't seem to bother with one these days. I did one on our board for Argyle and seemed to be the only one awake in the afternoon to contribute to it. You gotta have a matchday thread chaps come on now.........
Woopert and I keep this board ticking along during the week with the occasional input from a passing poster more often than not one linked to the Pompey side in a perverse way if my lot start a Christmas stumble and head south I would think the board might show some signs of a racing pulse especially from a certain well known Wumpey
Have to say that not606 has taken a turn for the worse health wise in the lower reaches. Mind you it's not that healthy in a couple of other leagues as well. I know there are other sites and there is always one that's more favoured than the rest for each club so it does make it hard to maintain enthusiasm. My experience though is that these sites are normally frequented by a group that think they control opinion and if somebody disagrees with their take then they get a cyber kicking. If they but realise it though their site is no more interesting because most of the posters seem to post the same thing but just change a few words around to pretend it's their own. At least on our 606 site we may disagree at times but nobody gets slagged off for it. I prefer it that way but it is a pity our contributor numbers have shrunk over time. Anyway, back to your actual topic for this thread. I see the Ref helped again Wooperts.........
Have a look at the Channel 5 goals programme later and look at the penalty incident, and the two red cards, greeny. They were rougher than your lot I tell you
Geddon even Channel 5 are biased.. I'm not allowed to watch the highlights on 5 until Sunday morning when I sneak away from my chores for a quick skeg on catch up. Was another funny ole day in the league 2 prediction thingy. I did tip your lot for a win today but who would have gone for Newport over Carlisle?
Seen the incidents now Wooperts. First was a penalty. Second was a yellow and as he had had one it was turned red. The last as a straight red didn't look that terrible to be honest. I replayed it several times and thought it was a yellow. I suppose the Ref couldn't take any chances though you've turned loads of one nils into draws........ Who would have thought you'd be thanking Newport.
I thank Mansfield for coming to Fratton Park to play attacking football greeny, but when they realised they couldn't compete with us in that respect, things turned slightly nasty. By the way, can I borrow your rose tinted spectacles sometime ?!
Do you mean Newport or Mansfield Wooperts? The thanks I was talking about was for beating Carlisle. Where do the rose tinted specs come into anything? I watched the incidents and 2 out of 3 no problem. Only an opinion from what little was shown on 5 that the second Red could have been a yellow by other Refs is all. Hardly a tinted view of anything. I definately don't have green tinted specs for sure. I'm still waiting for our season to fall over having been programmed by history with my glorious club.
I'm too old to fight anymore antipodean. Here is a debateable point then with what is a tackle and what is downright nasty. I believe that people have become conditioned nowadays by the antics of the players and their clutching of various parts of their body when brushed by an opponent. Ref's are forced to give kicks and cards because the offenders of acting are so bleddy good at it. pompeymeoth alludes to that with his disgust of football on another of your threads. In other words those that cheat. I think it has programmed us into judging what would have been a "hard" tackle into the dirtiest tackle ever seen. and we howl for the cards to be shown. My question is how did your player get on after the red was shown? Did he limp off or get carried off on a stretcher? Was he suffering for the rest of the match? I doubt it so just how fierce a tackle was it then. A foul yes, a red card????? Hmmm!! Would we all have howled so loudly 20 years ago......
Well greeny - think back to the play-off semi final second leg at your ground, and the two terrible tackles/fouls from behind on both Gareth Evans and Danny Hollands both by Carl McHugh I believe. Both players went off injured, never to return to the field of play. Infact, neither player was fit enough to attend pre-season, and didn't return to the first team squad until August/September, which goes to show how serious the injuries were. They were both fierce tackles/fouls by the same player, removing two of our regular midfielders from the game. Totally unfair to my mind, which might well have led to us losing the game. Me bitter ? - Nah
Christ hold a grudge or what Wooperts. Remember the two penalties you lot got down here on the first day of the season last time? The amount of force used to knock your players over was the equivelent of a gnat brushing past an elephant and him going down like he's been shot. A girl would have managed to stay upright. Maybe McHugh remembered that cheating and got a bit more physical. Still, your girls are good at getting pens aren't they. Your turn.
Well I must say that was a very disappointing end to what was shaping up as a bricks in handbags jobby - What I could glean was that Woopert thinks Plymouth players all went to the IRA school of kneecapping and Greeny thinks Pompey players are a bunch of nancy boy divers who go down quicker than Monica Lewinsky- gentlemen is that a fair assessment ?
Just about sums it up for me antipodean but as soon as anyone mentions messing with the rear nether regions I get nervous and have to leave the room. Years of Naval conditioning I think. If I drop anything on the floor in the middle of the room I still have to kick it to the side wall before picking it up even now......
