Who are Ya?
Brentford were formed in 1889 and have been at Griffin Park since 1904. Along with Pompey they were founder members of the Third Division South in 1920. They won the league in 1933 and, at the 2nd attempt, won promotion to the First Division [Premier League].
They reached the final of the London War Cup in both of its seasons, losing to Reading in 1941, and winning against FA Cup holders Portsmouth in 1942. They were relegated in 1947, the first season after the war, and found themselves back in the Third Division South in 1954.
The were relegated to the Fourth Division in 1962, but won that division the following year. Relegation again in 1966 resulted in a longer stay in the bottom tier. They spent just 1 more season outside the Fourth Division between then and 1978.
In 1992 they gained promotion to Div 1 [Championship] and spent a single season in the 2nd tier; their first since 1954 and most recent to date. Since then they have spent time in both of the lower leagues and have been in the 3rd tier since winning League Two in 2009.
