please log in to view this image PUBLISHED 11:30 27th January 2017 by Portsmouth FC Title-winner passes away in Jamaica Pompey are mourning the death of title-winning forward Lloyd Lindberg (Lindy) Delapenha. The Jamaican died in Kingston on Thursday morning at the age of 89. A talented all-round athlete, he represented the army at cricket, hockey and athletics before moving to England to become Pompey’s first black player in 1948. He made eight appearances during his time at Fratton Park, helping the club become champions of England in back-to-back seasons. Delapenha’s one goal for the Blues secured a 1-1 draw with Norwich in the third round of the FA Cup. He was sold to Middlesbrough for £7,000 in 1950 and played 260 times for the Teessiders in the league, netting three times against his former club. Lindy went on to play for Mansfield, later becoming director for sport for the Jamaican Broadcasting Corporation.
