Good luck with your new manager. Your club seems to be in very safe hands at the top these days.

It's a risk - he is unproven, but the references he is getting from Hogson etc cannot be ignored!

He could be the next great manager for all we know and until there are signs of him not being that, I think everyone at PFC should get behind him!

You know, rather than being the cheapest option it could just be that he impressed the people at the club during the interview enough that he was picked over more high-profile name, that he was most in tune with what the owners wanted and wasn't asking a fortune for the job. Just because he isn't a big name asking for big wages doesn't mean he's any less worthy of the job than anyone else.

I hope it works out this time, a bit of stability will work wonders. Good Luck Mr Appleton, except for when you play us!

You're jumping to the conclusion that because he's not on high wages he must have been the cheapest option available and therefore he isn't as worthy as someone with a higher profile. Neither you nor I nor anyone here was privy to the list of the whole 50 odd candidates, nobody but the club knows exactly who went for the job or what they said in the interview or set as their requirements for taking the job. I'm annoyed that your rubbishing this appointment while knowing sod all about the process that led to Appleton getting the job, without knowing who demanded what, who turned down who or even what was available to be offered to the prospective managers. Rather than making unfounded assumptions and belittling the appointment I much prefer it you just let the man have a chance to prove himself. It's a gamble to appoint an untested manager - we all accept that - but saying he was only appointed because he was cheap without know anything about the process that led him to getting the job is pure arrogance on you part and - until he's had a chance to prove himself - degrading to the new manager.

The Scummers didn't exactly break the bank when they appointed Adkins did they.?

A cheap ex physio from Scunny were some comments I read.

A bit of a risky appointment in my opinion, but let's just get behind him and the team now he is at the helm.

You are correct MAJR! Every good manager had to start somewhere & Appleton may prove to be a very good choice.
He will not be under any allusions about the money available for new players & clearly this is a challenging post.
He may prove to be the very man you need & to cast doubts on him before he has actually stepped through the door in foolish.
I hope he does well for you - our derby games being the exception of course!!

Don't be a moron, he was always the best man for the job - Poortvliet and Wotte were our Lidl options, Adkins was an appointment based on ability.

On the subject at hand I think it's a very good appointment - I know a PNE fan who wanted Appleton a little while ago and had a lot of good things to say for him - whether he lives up to that hype we will have to wait and see, but certainly an encouraging appointment for you.

    Oh right

That is of course your opinion and judging by your response, you do not like anybody else to have one.

Ditto every word - except - we have no idea how much money he is on so him being cheapest is pure speculation! <ok>

I have a good feeling about him and think he's going to do for us what his friend Mcinnes is doing for Brizzle. Anyway good luck to him, and us.

The guy has nothing to lose, he is obviously a very good no2 and will be champing at the bit to do a good job and be recognised as a good manager.
My cheap comment is a little tongue and cheek MAJR But in my opinion the wage difference between Appleton and the other names brandished around will be a massive difference and good business.
The only way they will be criticized for his appointment is if you get relegated and lets face it, that will not happen.
So Good business for the fans who i know many on here, who are realistic and just want the club to stabilise for a couple of years but for the younger fans who have seen sucsess in there early years of being a Pompey fan, will it be enough.
