Academy Draw With Yeovil - Young Blues held at Furze Lane

Pompey Academy twice let slip a lead to draw 3-3 with Yeovil at Furze Lane in the Youth Alliance League.

An own-goal and close-range finish from Seok Jae Lee ensured the hosts enjoyed a healthy advantage at the interval.

The Glovers fought back to level in the second half, but Charlie Bell (pictured) restored the advantage by firing home from the edge of the box.

But a corner was lashed into the Blues’ net in the closing stages to ensure the spoils would be shared.

Professional development phase coach Liam Daish said: “We started really well, played some nice football and found ourselves two goals ahead at the break.

“But we conceded from two corners and a penalty. We need to deal with set-plays better because it seems to be a soft spot for us at the moment.

“It’s something we need to address and everyone’s aware of the issues. There’s work being done on the training ground, although it’s not going to happen overnight.

“Our overall play from box to box is really impressive and we had chances to go further ahead on Saturday to wrap things up.

“But while we’re scoring some great goals, other teams aren’t having to work too hard to score against us.

“It’s a little bit of a mental block and the players perhaps have to take a bit of responsibility and show some more aggression to attack the ball, especially when we’re marking zonally.

“So we’re looking to see some resilience from our side and make the most of the otherwise good work we’re seeing.”

Pompey: Conor Manderson; David Setters (Josh Dockerill 80), Dan Cadman, Harvey Rew, Harvey Hughes; Harry Jewitt-White, Charlie Bell; Kristian Dawson, Seok Jae Lee, Harrison Brook; Dan Gifford (Alfie Bridgman 64)
