Pompey Academy roared back to winning ways in impressive fashion with a 3-0 Youth Alliance League victory over Swindon.

They broke the deadlock midway through the first half at Copnor Road, with Koby Mottoh arriving at the far post to convert a Harvey Laidlaw (pictured) delivery.

Laidlaw provided another assist early in the second half, this time crossing for trialist Sam Foralin to powerfully head home

And the points were then secured on the hour mark when a long-range strike from Adam Payce found the net.

Lead professional development phase coach Zesh Rehman said: “The game started evenly, but we got the opening goal and Swindon rarely troubled our box.

“For long periods of the game we were able to secure possession and build up our play with plenty of composure.

“I liked our intensity, energy and unity from start to finish. We outran our opponents in every department, showing real desire to press as a team and be first to the ball all over the pitch.

“Bastian Smith was in goal for his first start of the season and produced a faultless display to keep a clean sheet.

“He and Malachi Osei-Owusu support each other very well during the week, along with their coach Dan Hill.

“Meanwhile, Jack Fox, Daniel Murray, Mitch Aston, Brian Quarm and Koby always show a positive attitude.

“They are willing to play in a variety of different roles and are very coachable, always putting the team first.

“Harvey was solid throughout and showed his attacking strengths with two more assists. Adam, as usual, led by example in and out of possession.

“Luke Staight and Jayden Keteku from our under-16s integrated nicely. Luke broke up play superbly and was always an option to extend the game.

“They both handled the ball really well, which is credit to their coaches Ben Hicham and Mo Belhouna.

“Maxwell Hurst has been patiently waiting for his opportunity and took it with a very good overall display, while Sam was a handful physically throughout.

“His work-rate was outstanding and being able to play with two strikers gives us real adaptability. Their movement provided more opportunities to exploit in behind Swindon.

“The players have shown a growth mindset, embracing new systems of play. They are open-minded and absorb details from our curriculum, which has been implemented fantastically by James Barlow.

“They committed to the theme we had focused on all week and delivered lots of early crosses, with five or six of them in the box and ready to adjust in order to score.

“Our analyst Jack Rogers and assistant PDP coach Sam Hudson do excellent work with the boys every week.

“They show them clips related to their individual learning plans and specific movements we want them to try during matches.”

Pompey: Bastian Smith; Brian Quarm, Jack Fox, Luke Staight; Koby Mottoh, Daniel Murray, (Jayden Keteku 65), Mitch Aston, Harvey Laidlaw; Adam Payce; Sam Foralin, Maxwell Hurst

Subs not used: Gabriel Kamavuako, Jamie Howell
