Pompey Academy made it back-to-back wins in the Youth Alliance League by beating Plymouth 3-0 in a midweek contest at Copnor Road. They took the lead in the opening seconds, when a free-kick was not dealt with and the home side’s trialist fired home. Harry Clout soon struck the post, but the winger did double the advantage after the break, courtesy of a neat finish into the bottom corner. Leading marksman Tayo Singerr then converted a fine cross from Jermaine Osifo late on to wrap up a convincing victory. Lead professional development phase coach Sam Hudson said: “I was really pleased with our attacking play, with 17 shots and our highest number of penalty box entries this season. “We showed another side to our attacking play and it’s not often that you face Plymouth and they don’t have a single clear-cut chance.” “My only criticism is that we didn’t take more of those chances because we were so dominant in the final third. “We tweaked the press and that also worked well, with plenty of regains high up the pitch, although our build-up from deep was probably the worst part of our performance. “I felt that we didn’t have enough control of the ball in our own half, but once we got it forward with more purpose, we looked good. “We showed another side to our attacking play and it’s not often that you face Plymouth and they don’t have a single clear-cut chance. “The three goals we scored were all different – one from a set-piece, one from out wide and one by going through the middle – and we probably should have won by even more.” Pompey: Conal McDermott; Kearney, Reggie Buckland, Ashton Sizer, Nathaniel Chioma (Jermaine Osifo 76); Bare (Beau Mullins 65), Luke Staight; Trialist, Jayden Keteku, Harry Clout; Tayo Singerr
