Pompey Academy returned to winning ways in the Youth Alliance League by beating Bromley 2-0 at Copnor Road.

They opened the scoring in the first half when Reggie Buckland fed the ball to Max Hammond, who neatly finished.

And the points were secured after the break, as Jermaine Osifo was brought down in the box and Beau Mullins (pictured above) converted the penalty.

Lead professional development phase coach Sam Hudson said: “It was probably our most complete performance of the season so far.

“We looked strong both with and without the ball, pressing well and winning the vast majority of our duels.

“That allowed us to create some chances and the opening goal came from us regaining possession high up the pitch.

“Bromley were very narrow and compact, which made them particularly stubborn to break down, so we changed shape midway through the first half and got some extra bodies into midfield.

“We’d worked hard during the week on being more comfortable on the ball and the lads really took that on board. It was nice to see.

“Some of the passing in the second half was very crisp and clean, although we probably should have scored more goals.

“Jermaine and Max out wide were threats throughout the contest, while the midfield kept the ball moving.

“I was so pleased with the quality we showed on the ball, while a first clean sheet of the season – with Conal saving the only decent chance our opponents had – was also nice.”

Pompey: Conal McDermott; Dimani Kearney, Ashton Sizer, George Wilson, Beau Mullins; Reggie Buckland, Ciaran Martin; Max Hammond (Nathaniel Chioma 75), Fraser Thomas, Jermaine Osifo; Dane Bailey
