IMO, yes we will. He now has an abundance of players that he has signed and I'm confident that we won't see a repeat of the dour draws against Newcsatle, Fulham and Saints. We also need to beat the 3 promoted teams when they visit CR!!!!
Whether the game is dour or not, it does non mean a change in tactics. It could still be the same tactics but with better players.
I think the tactics will almost be the same, but with better players. The summer signings have all been positive attacking thinking, so I do expect better performances once they've settled down.
Yes, I would agree the players brought in are more attacking more to do with their speed than anything which is ideal for a defensive set up.
I'm interested to see why people think a change in tactics is going to follow. Do you think we will not be geared to defend in numbers? Or that we will just attack with more pace when the opportunity occurs (as I believe).
I think priority will still be a defensive mindset though with the new signings we've got more ability to attack. I can't see a Swansea style possession game, but more emphasis on swift counter. I realise this isn't Carra's dream but I think we'll definitely see more dimensions to our game. Signings like Olsson will give us more options linking defence to attack and in Fer perhaps more patience in build up. I also think that a general increase in new ability will raise the bar for our existing squad members like Howson, Johnson etc.
The new acquisitions are considerably better than what we already have and as long as we have JR in goal, we'll be less defensive.
I'll pose this question to everyone, if we play the same dull style football will you be happy as long as we get 3 points and put up with it. Or will you want a bit more for your match ticket and outlay on players.
I wouldn't be happy, but we have bought players to improve the style of play haven't we? I think Hughton has been brilliant with his purchases, let's see what he can do with them. I've never felt so confident in several decades watching City, do you ever get excited? (Let's keep it to football)
Judging by the games I've watched from the US (and I know it's pre-season and the point of those games is to get fitness and so on), I'd say we're going to play pretty much the same way but with much better players. In those games, and especially San Jose, the problems from last season were still there and had not yet been solved (I am not saying this means they cannot or will not be solved - just that at the moment we look a long way from solving them.) On paper, with the new signings, this looks like it could be an exciting season if we reach our potential. With all this now in place, I think it's the season when we find out whether CH is a very gifted manager or just another in the long list of dull, obdurate, tactically-limited English coaches.
The signings are the highest profile I've ever experienced, but then again it's the first season in my lifetime we've had money available. I'm excited by the players, I'm just not excited in the slightest by the manager. They will only reflect his approach on the field. I have no excitement in me for defending for 10 mins and attacking for 30 seconds, I want to see my team with the ball not the opposition. Despite what people think I'm not after Barcelona style football, I don't think alot of people realise how truly bad the footballing intention was last year, it was by some considerable distance the worst I have ever seen in my life supporting Norwich.
Well yes, it was indeed, and you are right about this new found money we now have at our disposal. I'm certainly not ready to write CH off just yet, but as VC says, this is his chance to prove himself. I hope he does, as I really like him as a person (but then I liked Peter Grant)
I hope we don't change, just play the system we we trying to play in a more balanced way I like it. If we could play like one big team for me it would be Borussia Dortmund, I think they're fantastic to watch. We already use a similar formation and now we have the attacking players to make it work. Obviously I want to see us be more attacking and don't want to see the defensive dull 0-0 draws, I also agree that we need to stay on the ball and pass with greater accuracy but I think this is more improving or play than changing our style. We will no doubt see two up front more with 2 top quality strikers, but I expect to see RVW play further back that hooper.
Would any of RvW, Fer or Hooper have agreed to come to the club if Hughton hadn't outlined a vision for the future - both achievements wise and also playing style. I don't imagine Hooper would have chosen to come if he was under the impression that he'll barely get a touch because our existing midfield are a poor supply line for him? I hate the cliché, but CH has "talked the talk" it's time for him to "walk the walk" by delivering improved levels of performance on the pitch - which, with the new personnel, I think he will. Or rather I hope to hell he does!
I think Hoopers move was made easy as his choice was stay at his current club which has lost big players in a league that was proving no challenge without Rangers or move to a car crash of an out fit in the championship on decent money. When we stepped in it made it an easy descion I don't necessaryly believe he was sold a vision of what CH had in mind. Maybe I'm just being to cynical ?
Good question carrabuh. Personally, I want to see us far more intent on - a. keeping the ball and b. taking it into the opponents' half and trying to score goals. I hope we don't see ANY repeats of when we had no shots on target against any team, as happened on at least a couple of occasions last season - one of which was Wigan away!!! Too right I want to see more entertainment for my season ticket money and the millions spent on players, but Hughton HAS to send the team out telling them it's OK to attack and try and score goals - I'm hopeful we can get at least 50 in the 'goals for' column and maybe even have a positive goal difference come the end of the season!!!
Well, I certainly don´t think we´ll see a change in formation, it´ll be 4-4-1-1 or 4-2-3-1 which, as he´s said, are his favoured systems, but that should be no problem as there´s nothing intrinsically defensive about either of those. The players he´s brought in will certainly be able to play whichever system he goes for, better than we did last year, with all due respect to Holt and Co, Hooper playing off Wolf has to be more potent than Jackson playing off Holt, and Fer marauding from box to box, better than Tettey or Johnson trying the same. I don´t think there was very much inherently wrong with his tactics last year, no team will ever completely cut out the occasional bore draw, he has the system he believes in and likewise the tactics. I just expect both of them to be implemented far more successfully this year, with the recent influx of talent.
someone has already raised the dortmund link and this is ultimately what i want to see from my team: a determined, hard working, defensively sound counter attacking unit who attack with pace and precision. a side who can create chances from wide areas and centrally. counter attacking football when played in quantity and with pace is by far the most exciting football i've ever watched and dortmund and bayern too are prime examples. in the late 80s we played a more continental style but in the early 90s we were very good at mixing it with swift counter attacks and its no surprise we were successful because of the combination. i don't care if most of the players are 5' 4" or 6' 8". i don't want tippy tappy stuff - i want players who can pass the ball elegantly, certainly, but i don't want slow, methodical build up - i want a mix where we can control the ball for 30 seconds and then burst into life.
