I know this may have been touched on in other recent threads, but I feel this needs a poll. A lot of people have suggested that Lallana is not yet experienced enough, or not vocal enough, to be given the captaincy, but there is no generally accepted alternative. I personally think that Lallana is currently the man for the job; as well as being one of our best players, and as well as definitely being at least quite loud on the pitch, he is also Saints through and through. I remember in the West Ham game, just before Noble took the penalty, Lallana was motivating Boruc from the edge of the area. Though it's only a small thing, it's the kind of thing a captain is there for, much like what Super Kelv would do. So, if not Lallana (which it should be ), who will it be? N.B. This is for captain on the pitch, not necessarily club captain.
Can't be Kelvin as he doesn't play, I wouldn't give it to any of our back 4. For me it has to be Steven Davis.
Personally would be happier with Steven Davis as our captian. Huge amount of experience at every level of football, and seems to have a very good head on relatively young shoulders, definitely the amount of experience he has is ridiculous at the age of 27, especially considering the lack of it elsewhere in our team. But this is really a best-case scenario. Ideally I would like Davis to be captaining the side, but not at the expense of insulting or upsetting Adam who has really done nothing particularly wrong. If a change of captain could be achieved easily with no hurt feelings or egos, then I'd be all for it, but only in that case.
I'm not entirely sure why that would be, considering he was born in St Albans. Edit: Ah, his Dad's an Everton fan according to Wikipedia. So he chose his Dad's team (like me) and was born in St Albans (like me). You'll be seeing me in the starting lineup next weekend as well.
Why are we even discussing stripping the captaincy from Lallana? John Terry is still somehow the captain of Chelsea so what can he have done?? Seriously though, this is stupid. The captaincy is no more than symbolic, and no-one is more symbolic of the club than Lallana. If Steven Davis or anyone else wants to 'rally the troops' on the pitch then they can, whether they are wearing the armband or not.
If you ask former players, they seem to think it's more than symbolic, though it is also the case that the more vocal players will be vocal whether they have the armband or not. I'd say the very best captains (Beckham, Raúl, Keane, etc.) have made pretty big differences to their teams by wearing the armband. I maintain that Beckham's leadership is something that the England squad still desperately misses.
The England football team miss players who can actually play football , we have been missing that for about 25 odd years .
