They are doing their best. They are ensuring revenue isn't wasted, and they are ensuring that the size of the brand increases. Long term, its the perfect strategy.

They've spent all they are going to spend on the club and as far as they are concerned, will only spend what comes in throught the door - so the club will have to maximise income...

I think the owners are a little naive. I think they are thinking mostly straight but have placed too much confidence in dud advisors as they learn the ropes for themselves.

I don't think they are bad people... nor are they incompetent. They are certainly not sugar daddies.

I think over time they will learn from their mistakes slowly.

Why does no europe = no spend?

Haven't we just spent some money and no Europe unless we are counting Europa League

Europa isn't nearly as lucrative as champions league... the costs associated with competing barely are justified by the revenue.

You have to include in the cost lost points due to key players tired or injured for the league.

Revenue from Europa won't be adding many millions to our budget like CL would.

    Agreed.
An English side can generate a minimum of £30 million for just qualifying for the champions league. Should they get to the knock out stages, add another £20 million to that, get to the quarters add another £20 million to that, get to the semis same again. Clubs can make as much as £80 million without actually winninng it.

Well Leeds United spent money that they expected to recuperate by future successes and we know where they are now.

So we do need some caution on spending.

Some caution is fine. Investing nothing in a new manager is a recipe for disaster.

Some caution - yes. But they're expecting miracles if they want BR to get into the top 4 working on a sell-to-buy source of income.

    I'm certainly not <laugh>

Just for the record Leeds didn't nearly go bust because of what they spent...it was because they spent badly and went down. One bad season and....****....let THAT be a warning to us all <ok>

I am hoping by January and next summer, all of these new sponsorships, new kit manufacturers, new this and that will start to add up to where we will have plenty to use.

I understand being run on self-sufficiency and that is fantastic, it is what we all want really. But before you go into the money factor we made as management a major gaf on this final transfer deadline day and that needs to be sorted out. We had Andy and did not have to let him go, no money or some money, we should have just stuck with him until that pot got bigger and could get the q2uality we needed.

for the record... the europa league, for a team who are just in it form the start is worth about 7mil... thats what i saw two years ago anyway... a side in the CL who finsihes 3rd in their group will get tv money form it AND the europa and clear 25mil...... thats JUST TV pool money.

opening anfield for 30k crowds etc for lower matches (lucky with group this time mind) doesn't make as much profit on the home games either.

Thats why i said no europe = no spend.

our net spedn is apparently 3rd highes ti nthe past 5 years so there you go... waste as well.

Hiring a scouting team that couldn't even work for us this summer....sending Carroll out without cover first.... I don't know who is to blame, but someone needs to be pushed around in a wheelchair with a bib and headgear like Cech.
