  1. Rather than a window, maybe there should be some sort of ruling like with footballers. Players are not allowed to sign for more than three clubs in a calendar year and must not play for me than two, this basically allows for someone to move and have a change of heart for whatever reason before player or a club can buy a player and loan them out (although I suspect loans are treated differently as players can get sent on two or three loans in one season).

Now, this obviously wouldn't work with managers as they don't choose to be sacked. However, if it was slightly twisted to say a club can't have more than three managers in a twelve month calendar then it would stop the likes of Chelsea and recent activities at Sunderland from happening (it would have to be three otherwise the incoming manager would be guaranteed twelve months).

Maybe the rules should say a club has to stick with their managerial decision for a minimum of six months?

  2. DR is clearly a poll novice, he's not ticked the 'make votes public' option so we don't know who voted for what. Nor did it put the regularity "I don't give a flying ****" option either <ok>

It's not workable; a player with a strop on doesn't need to be put on the pitch but if relations break down between the manager and the players/club and he's unsackable then the whole thing becomes insane.

  4. Which is why I suggested the three in twelve months idea. Lets clubs make a mistake <ok>

I think that the whole concept is totally wrong. The window should shut at Midnight of the day before the season starts for BOTH managers and players. Therefore you play the season with the squad of players, coaches and managers that you have got. Yes a club should be allowed to sack a manager or coach but they have to find his replacement internally. Yes clubs should be able to sign pre-contract agreements with players for the coming season but only with the consent of the exiting club if the player has more than 1 season on their contract.

By following this model, clubs will have to manage their affairs much more closely and the bigger clubs would not be able to buy their way out of trouble. As a compensation I would allow clubs to increase the size of their squads (but I don't know to what level)

I still think transfer window for players is a bad idea.

It's tricky - it's bad for clubs with smaller squads if they pick up a few injuries to key players after the window closes.
However, it also helps protect them against big clubs coming in at any point in the season and stealing the players best in form.
